  • As an essential part of the UK’s food supply chain, the milling industry plays a critical role in supporting sustainability. Flour milling is a zero waste process, with the majority becoming the flour that goes into bread and other food products, and the rest becoming bran for animal feed. During Zero Waste Week, we're sharing millers' efforts surrounding sustainability. • Flour milling sits at the heart of the food supply chain, transforming wheat into one of our most essential ingredients: flour. And the people working in flour mills are at the heart of everything we do, nourishing the nation every day. For more than a century and continually modernised, UK Flour Millers has provided training created by millers, for millers. Our Distance Learning Programme helps employees (millers, those working in flour mills, and other industry players) build their careers by developing the skills and knowledge needed to thrive, while also strengthening their organisations and the industry as a whole. • The clotted cream then jam vs. jam then clotted cream debate is alive and well in our office this National Afternoon Tea Week. But whatever order you choose, one ingredient is at the heart of the celebration: flour. Flour is a foundation of our food supply, present in approx. 30% of grocery store items, and essential to countless favourites, from scones and sandwiches to sausages and pastries. It represents a supply chain of farmers, millers, and bakers. As we enjoy our scones, we also celebrate the people, skills, and dedication that keep this everyday essential year-round. JUMP IN: Where do you sit on the great scone debate? #NationalAfternoonTeaWeek #AfternoonTeaWeek #Flour #Farmers #Millers #Bakers #Scones #FlourMillers #FlourMilling #UKFlourMillers #FABFlour

Changing the future of flour milling training one grain at a time!

We had a truly “grain-tastic” meeting yesterday with Susanne Richter and Richard Hedges from GoodMills Group GmbH, a respected leader in the European milling industry. It was a pleasure to talk about how our modern, learner-focused training can support every member of the milling team—using the latest educational approaches and tools to create an excellent user experience. One highlight of the discussion was the UK Flour Millers Distance Learning Programme, which offers a flexible, high-quality route for developing milling expertise. With the enrolment deadline fast approaching, the timing couldn’t have been better. Susanne and Richard’s insight, enthusiasm, and passion for developing people made the conversation inspiring, and I’m excited to see how we can work together to strengthen skills and knowledge across the milling community. A special thank you to Steve Britton, Chair of the UK Flour Millers Training Committee, for his valuable input, shared experience, and insights during the conversation—it’s always great to have his perspective in the room. Here’s to partnerships that are well-ground and full of potential! https://lnkd.in/eK2PGUVj #ukflourmillers #goodmills #training #milling #flour #DLP #partnerships

  • As we dig into sandwiches, scones, and other treats in celebration of National Afternoon Tea Week, we herald the essential primary ingredient: flour. In fact, the foods on each layer of a traditional afternoon tea menu are manifestations of the farming, milling, and baking supply chain, and our members work 24/7 to help produce the 12 million loaves of bread and 10 million cakes per day that may make it onto those plates. If you want to join in and embrace the flour-based goodies, why not try FAB Flour’s newest recipe for really quite special scones: https://lnkd.in/edZJU9dC #AfternoonTeaWeek #NationalAfternoonTeaWeek #FABFlour #Flour #UKFlourMillers

  • For #farm24 we’re celebrating British farmers’ contribution as part of the farming, milling, baking supply chain, underpinning food security and food safety through the supply of up to four million tonnes of homegrown wheat a year, used in the production and supply of staples including breads, biscuits, and cakes, plus pizzas, soups, sausages, and much more besides.
