A brilliant couple of days at the AI in Financial Services Conference last week 🤝 On Day 1, Anastasiia Nedava and Freddie Clayton welcomed so many of you to the Aveni booth. On Day 2, our CPO Benjamin Cave spoke about why financial services need sovereign, specialised and ethical AI and how we’re building FinLLM to deliver exactly that. FOCUS IS ALL YOU NEED: I am delighted to have had such an enthusiastic response to my talk about focused language models #FLM at today's session, "Research: How Can We Minimize #GenAI #Hallucinations?" There were lots of attendees and questions afterward at the 7th #AI in #FinancialServices conference in #London, thank you! Today's audience was yet another example of how, both inside the #datascience lab and in the real world, #FLMs are the most readily available way for businesses to gain trust in #GenerativeAI systems. #FLMs are distinctly different from commercially available #LLMs and #SLMs, which offer no control of the #data used to build the model; tight data curation is crucial for preventing hallucinations and harm. 🚀 What an incredible experience speaking at the 7th Annual Artificial Intelligence in Financial Services Conference UK! My solo presentation on “The Dawn of the EU AI Act – What Does This Mean for the UK Industry?” truly caught many professionals by surprise. Did they know that UK companies operating in Europe must comply with the EU AI Act—and face serious penalties if they don’t? The answer was… not really. It was a real wake-up call for the UK financial industry, and I’m glad it sparked so much discussion. Since the session, I’ve been approached by many companies seeking my advice on this critical issue—proof that awareness is urgently needed. Artificial Intelligence in Financial Services London 2025 delivered on demonstrating how AI is driving success in Financial Services. Some key personal takeaways; The market is seeing powerful Agentic AI frameworks emerge that can transform business operations. Organisations should focus on developing custom AI workflows tailored to their specific needs, leveraging internal expertise from teams who understand the business deeply. Performance optimisation comes through specialised small language models that are either built from the ground up or fine-tuned for specific domains. This approach delivers better results than generic solutions while maintaining cost efficiency. Strategic independence requires private, portable AI architectures that keep data on-premise and provide full control over AI models. This prevents vendor dependency while ensuring regulatory compliance and maintaining operational flexibility. Regulatory scrutiny is intensifying around AI bias, decision transparency, and system architecture. Organisations need to prepare for stricter oversight and accountability requirements. Current frontier model pricing represents a temporary market penetration strategy. As costs inevitably rise, companies relying heavily on these services will face significant budget pressures and operational disruption. Organisations that establish independence from frontier model providers early will avoid the costly scramble when pricing models shift and will maintain greater strategic control over their AI capabilities. To summarise, for me the day reinforced the consistent message of Mitko Vasilev, “Make sure you take ownership of your AI.
