Argentina has relaxed its entry rules for Indian citizens who already hold a valid US tourist visa. Under the new policy, Indian travelers with ordinary passports will no longer need to apply for an Argentine visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (AVE). Immigration officials will still check documents with relevant agencies before giving clearance at entry points.

The move mirrors India’s own travel rules, which allows Argentine visitors to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) free of cost for tourism.

Argentina’s tourism push

Just last month, the country extended similar exemptions to travelers from China and the Dominican Republic, as long as they also hold valid US visas. The latest move can be seen as Argentina’s wider effort in boosting international tourism and strengthen global partnerships.

Officials believe such steps will help revive Argentina’s tourism sector, which is an important contributor to the economy. Tourism Secretary Daniel Scioli welcomed the reform, noting that it will make travel easier and encourage cultural exchanges. Deregulation Minister Federico Sturzennegger highlighted that millions of Indians travel to the US every year, making them a strong potential market for Argentina.

He also pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had raised the issue of tourism facilitation during his meeting with President Javier Milei in Buenos Aires earlier this year. According to him, making travel simpler is essential if Argentina wants to attract more visitors.

Strengthening ties with India

Argentina’s ambassador to India, Mariano Caucino, underlined that bringing more Indian tourists is a priority for the government. There is an expectation of Indians’ growing interest in places like Patagonia, Iguazu Falls, and Buenos Aires.

The policy is also in line with President Milei’s deregulation agenda, the purpose of which is to reduce red tape and stimulate economic growth. Apart from tourism, this move could further boost annual bilateral trade between the countries and open doors for collaboration in technology, agriculture, and renewable energy. Currently the bilateral trade between India and Argentina is worth around $6 billion.

Airlines and travel agencies are already marketing this change, which is expected to take effect right away.
