Rohit Sharma, India’s ODI captain, has secured second place in the men’s one-day international batting ranking. According to the latest ICC update, released on August 13, the 38-year-old jumped up one spot from the third position.
However, his rise in ranking coincided with a slide in Babar Azam’s rank, who slipped to the third position after a string of low scores in Pakistan’s recently concluded ODI series against the West Indies in the Caribbean.
Overall ranking
Rohit is now behind Shubman Gill, who retains the first position in the ranking. Rohit has a total of 756 rating points, which is 28 fewer than Gill’s rating points. Similarly, Babar Azam holds 751 points in third place. Virat Kohli former Indian captain, holds the fourth position with 736 points and will most probably improve in ranking when he returns for a three-match ODI series against Australia in October.
The ICC ranking has been released amid media reports mentioning the possible retirement of Rohit and Kohli after the tour of Australia in October. However, Rohit have joined hands with former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar in Mumbai to practice for the upcoming challenges. Similarly, Kohli had an indoor nets session in London.
India has five players in the top 15 of the men’s ODI batting rankings. Shreyas Iyer holds the eighth place, while wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul occupies 15th.
