Brandi Buchman

Legal/Justice Reporter, National Desk

Brandi Buchman is a legal/justice reporter at HuffPost, based in Washington, D.C. Reporting on litigation involving crime and corruption filed in courts across the nation, she has spent the last decade primarily focused on lawsuits involving President Donald Trump. With an eye on issues where law and politics intersect, she honed that expertise while steadfastly covering the Jan. 6 insurrection and its aftermath for four years, including developments in the criminal case against Trump for allegedly conspiring to overturn the 2020 election, defrauding the American public and intimidating voters. Buchman was among the very few reporters in the nation who covered the months-long, marathon-style seditious conspiracy trials of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers every day and logged minute-by-minute updates since neither trial was televised. Long before Jan. 6, Buchman reported from the Hill, covering congressional committee work including the House and Senate judiciary committees and reporting live for both of Trump’s impeachments. For HuffPost, Buchman enjoys taking complicated legal matters and making them accessible for the average reader to understand by writing in-depth explainers featuring sharp, candid analysis. Before joining HuffPost in 2024, she reported for Courthouse News Service, Daily Kos, emptywheel and Law&Crime. She broke into journalism when first working for The Southampton Press in Southampton, New York, where she was a feature writer focused on Arts&Living and, later, she wrote a column for the Town of Westhampton Beach. When she isn’t digging out from under stacks of court records or stuck inside the confines of a courtroom delicately balancing a notepad on her knee, Buchman is outside enjoying whatever sunshine she can get.
