How do you improve your content strategy framework?

Here are few things I did that helped my clients over the years: 1) An industry benchmarking. It helps your client realize where their competitors stand and the industry sentiments. It also helps you find content buckets, themes, pillars that worked well for your peers. 2) Link the insights and findings from the benchmarking with a content audit that covers brand content across channels. And yes, don't just depend on the tools. Go manual! 3) Outline the action points from the audit observations and make a roadmap to start on the content revamp journey! As a LinkedIn content creator for personal brands, I use the platform’s analytics to understand what content performs best for my clients. It’s a simple process that anyone can implement. First, turn creator mode ON for your profile. Then, download your year-to-date analytics report. Use this data to see what content performed best for your audience and to improve your messaging. Repeat this process every few months.

There are some great points here from other contributors in this article. What I am leaning towards more and more as a content strategist is: (a) coming back to putting the audience first and understanding who they are and what they want. I am a big advocate of creating content formats and strands and creating and measuring the taxonomy of your content but there is a danger of putting the cart before the horse when you focus on content more than audiences. (b) Working with brand values rather than tone of voice. Tone of voice is great but if it's too restrictive it can limit your ability to experiment and take creative risks. If you align yourself with overall brand values then you have much more flexibility to play.

KPI's are essential to measuring your success online. It evaluates the effectiveness of the content that is being published and helps you make better informed decisions. Not only knowing this data but being able to convey the valuable information that it provides will tell you exactly what you need to do online.

Make sure everything you’re putting out ties back to a larger piece of the puzzle. Just as your content team shouldn’t be creative for creative’s sake, they also shouldn’t be building random pieces of content without determining how that content fits into the larger marketing strategy, and by extension, the business strategy.

As content folks, we're mostly resource driven, and not metrics driven unlike paid acquisition and growth marketing teams. Though paid marketing efforts generate a decent number of leads, you have a chance to get organic leads from content without any investment. I usually monitor organic leads from the customer support teams. We have an excel sheet that's updated monthly. Along with the product/service customers opt for, their current challenges, and demographics, there's also a source of lead we monitor to check which marketing efforts are effective. That helps me analyze the number of organic leads coming via content.

Build a content backlog. Use various messaging angles to diversify your mix: Listicle, How-to, Comparison, Analysis, etc #3. Choose formats. For each topic, it can be repurposed in multiple formats as long as it fits the channel and your customer. #4: Assign team members and decide on the deadline for the first draft, review, and final draft. #5. Schedule in advance (after approval) Tip: Check performance after one week of posting for each piece instead of reviewing all pieces at the end of the month for equal time analysis.

Having processes in place is the key to productivity and efficiency. Content calendars keep you organized and provide a holistic view of the content, ensuring that everything aligns with the overall social media strategy.

One hardbound rule you should adhere to while drafting new content or even optimising an existing one is to tailor your content around your intended audience's pain points. Your content should be contextual, actionable or informational, and resonate with your TG. Remember your end customer is a human, not a machine. Not yet.

Searching for relevant keywords on LinkedIn is easier than most people think. Go to the LinkedIn search bar and type in the words your clients would use to find you. Pay attention to the automatically generated suggestions that appear as you type and save them. Follow the same process in Google. Use the suggested keywords in your LinkedIn posts and profile to ensure you appear organically in searches.

It’s a long term process. You will learn something new every day. Make sure you: - observe others - analyse your progress - understand the market sentiment Considering both qualitative and quantitative feedback is essential :)
