I use the term seperating the wheat from the chaf. Most data coming from IOT devices are not needed by core processes. So you need to filter these events at the edge to reduce the network overhead which can occur. This overhead reduction is critical when you are dealing with remote IOT devices who broadcast over packet systems, celular modems or store and forward technologies.

Data synchronization is a typical recurring challenge almost every project working with decentralized devices / decentralized data face. On top, it is a non-trivial challenge that is time-consuming, expensive, and risky to solve, and additionally expensive to maintain... An already optimized and well-tested middleware solving this out-of-the-box is a no-brainer really, and will not only save dev and maintenance costs, but also, at least if well done, bandwidth and networking costs.

Middleware for IoT and edge computing helps various systems communicate with each other easily while processing data and controlling devices. One application is in real-time data gathering, which involves middleware collecting and processing sensor data from the edge device for things to happen faster and better. Another use is device orchestration-that is, in the management of how IoT devices or services work together in coordination. A further application is security, which involves middleware handling authentication, encryption, and access control.
