    1. Need to have dedicated core and committed team for the project and other members shall in and out in the project, as per the project schedule and priorities. No need to have large fixed team for entire project duration 2. Project regular project monitoring, control and progress reporting to all the stakeholders holders 3. Ensure proper defined engineering and project execution process is being strictly implemented all stages of the project 4. At the end the project success or failure mainly depends on Project manager and he should be proven in team management and suitable to the project. 5. Carefully define the primary objective. Eliminate all work streams and tasks that do not contribute to delivering the primary objective. Provide clear goals. Identify people in the team that are struggling and support them. Keep out of every one else’s way. Project calm and assuredness. Listen more than you talk and work hard for your team. This is just 101 of course.

I would say good communication with the folks who are doing the work will keep you in a position to react to areas of concern before they become a serous problem to the project time line. Keep in mind project management software does no do any work, it just reflects what is being done. Get out and meet face to face and see what is happening. If you are unable to met IRL then use any tool you have to get as close to what is really going on. Face time via phone, zoom meeting . Keep in mind meeting don't produce anything, and most people trying to get something done hate them. So keep it short and sweet.

Complex engineering projects will have a plan and the plan will have a critical or longest path. Whilst the project will have deadlines, resource thresholds and other external factors, it’s important to constantly review a projects critical path and make sure that the majority of the time spent is on the critical items. Tasks with available FREE float can give way to tasks that have minimal or zero TOTAL float. It’s important that a schedule has a solid logic running throughout and that the critical path is reviewed at regular intervals.
