Start with empathy! Understanding their concerns and clearly communicating the benefits as these relate to their roles, using real use cases as examples. Involve them in the decision-making process through collaborative workshops or pilot programs, provide comprehensive training and support to build confidence. Lead by example to demonstrate commitment, highlight the competitive advantages of integration, and foster a positive culture around innovation with open feedback and recognition. Patience, empathy, and clear communication are key to guiding your team toward embracing change.

As an EA, I'd start by understanding the team's concerns. It's not just about tech - it's about people & processes too. Show 'em how integration aligns with biz goals & eases their workload. Use pilot projects to demonstrate value & gather feedback. Remember, change is a journey, not a destination!

Fear of change and fear of the unknown are two main reasons people avoid adopting anything new. Education and awareness can overcome these fears. Organizing training with appropriate use cases will enable them to learn and adopt new technology.

"Integration" is a process. The best you will get is "good enough for now". With that in mind, think about how far in the future you want "now" to be, consider how practical that much future planning is (too much, or not enough). Solve for that point in time. Generally, integration components act like infrastructure and have relatively long life spans. Focus on available technology. Integration is not challenging in terms of technology. Integration becomes hard when changes start to ripple through an organisation, but that's a problem for "future you".

People may resist change for two reasons 1. They don’t understand or believe the change will improve life 2. They are not confident they will be able to adapt to the new change. For #1 Ensure the benefit for the end customer and the team is clearly communicated e.g if you are migrating from legacy system to a new system, conduct sessions with team to highlight how the new system will reduce issues, debugging effort, build time and late hours of work for them. For #2 create a plan on how the existing team will be trained to gain expertise on new system. Give comfort to team the change will not be rushed into and everyone will get time for training. Pick early adapters within the team to use the new system and evangelise benefits to team.

When I first told my team that we will leverage GenAI to increase our productivity, the very next question that an SDE asked was ‘should I search another job ? ‘ Answers to this topic is mostly covered by other contributors, what resonates with me is starting with empathy , allowing team to speak first can be a good start point.

Fostering shared responsibility and actively listening to your team from the start creates a foundation of trust and collaboration. When introducing new technologies, especially in today’s fast-paced environment where AI is reshaping businesses weekly, engaging your team early on is essential. They may spot challenges or opportunities you haven’t considered. Leading by example means understanding the value of technology and ensuring your team is part of the decision-making process. Address their concerns with clarity and share the ownership of the outcome. Building a process that embraces collaboration is key, especially when time is short. Trust in your team, rely on their input and make sure they know their contributions are valued.

The best way to convince your team is to demonstrate the benefits rather than simply telling them about them. When they see the advantages firsthand, the entire organization can recognize the value and everyone benefits. In my experience, after implementing GenAI solutions for my team, they witnessed the improvements directly. This led to wider adoption of GenAI tools, resulting in increased productivity across the team.
