As we wrap up #DisabilityPrideAwarenessMonth, ACLD reaffirms our mission: to provide opportunities for children and adults with autism, learning and developmental disabilities to pursue enviable lives, promote their independence and foster supportive relationships within the community. DPAM is a time to honor the history, achievements and identities of people with disabilities. More than 70 million adults in the U.S. live with a disability, yet this month is still unknown to many. Let’s change that. Advocacy is at the heart of building truly inclusive communities. Together, we can: ➡ Urge elected officials to protect disability rights ➡ Support organizations like ACLD that empower people of all abilities ➡ Listen to and learn from people with disabilities ➡ Share your support on social media that sparks conversation ➡ Challenge ableism and harmful stereotypes ➡ Teach future generations the values of equity, respect, and acceptance Disability Pride Awareness Month may be ending, but our commitment to inclusion, respect, and opportunity for all continues every single day! Today marks 35 years since the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)! The passing and signing of the ADA was monumental in our ongoing efforts to achieve equity and inclusion for all people, specifically those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. At ACLD, we are committed to fulfilling the ADA's promise and legacy for full and equal participation for all people with disabilities. It is our job and privilege to continue the efforts of civil rights activists to continue to grow and evolve our society. We encourage you to be ambassadors of the principles behind the ADA, fostering a more accepting, inclusive, and positive environment for everyone who turns to us for support. Together, we continue shaping a world without barriers and full of opportunities.💙 #ADA #InclusionMatters #ACLD #ACLDFoundation #WeAreACLD #CelebrateDiversity

This past weekend NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities Commissioner Willow Baer sent out a message regarding Federal cuts to Medicaid. As we continue to celebrate #DisabilityPrideMonth, we wanted to break down the impact these Federal cuts will have on the IDD Community: ➡Based on the cuts to Medicaid presented in the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill,’ more than 1.5M New Yorkers will lose their current insurance coverage. ➡The Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) relies on $7B from the Medicaid Program to support the more than 130,000 New Yorkers with developmental disabilities. ➡These cuts will have a tremendous impact on the people who receive services, their families, their direct support staff, and organizations that provide these services. As Commissioner Baer stated in her message, we will remain steadfast in providing the greatest quality of support to those who turn to us for services. The most important thing we can do right now is to continue to advocate for this community and for the services that agencies like ACLD provide. July is #DisabilityPrideAwarenessMonth — a time to honor disability as a natural and powerful part of human diversity. Disability Pride means embracing identity, not as something to be fixed or hidden, but as something to be seen, supported, and celebrated. You may be wondering: What is Disability Pride Month? What does the Disability Pride Flag represent? We're here to help raise awareness and share the meaning behind this important month of recognition and empowerment. At ACLD, we stand for inclusion, respect, equity, and opportunity—every day, and especially during Disability Pride Month. Together, let’s listen, learn, and lead with empathy, ensuring that every person we support feels valued and proud of who they are. 💙 Download our Disability Pride Awareness Month Toolkit to find ways to participate and educate others: https://lnkd.in/eJG-wR2W #DPAM #InclusionMatters #WeAreACLD
