What is it like working at the world's largest startup? I had a chance to dive into what makes Amazon tick with Dean Francesca Cornelli of Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management this week. We talked about how AWS maintains a startup mentality, and why it matters for our customers. The answer lies in our unique approach to scale: We push decision-making to those closest to customers, creating a flat organizational structure that drives rapid innovation. It was great to reflect on my journey from Kellogg MBA student to an “unnamed startup” within Amazon that became Amazon Web Services (AWS). Nearly two decades later, we still believe in taking smart risks and pushing decision-making downward so our teams can be agile and move faster. For current MBA students wondering about AI's impact on their education, I strongly believe problem-solving become even more valuable in an AI world. Technology may handle tactical tasks, but strategic decision-making and connecting unexpected dots will always require critical thinking skills.
