We’re proud to join Hungary in advancing global standards for animal welfare. #RescueCareProtect 💙💚
👉 A landmark cooperation agreement was signed in Budapest by Dr. Kashyap Choksi, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Global Partnerships at American Humane Society, Péter Ovádi, Government Commissioner for Animal Protection, and Dr. Szilvia Vetter JD, PhD. LL.M., Chair of the Board of Trustees of the “Our Common Cause – Animal Welfare Foundation” (In Hungarian: “Közös Ügyünk az Állatvédelem Alapítvány). The event was symbolically held at one of Hungary’s leading animal shelters, the Rex Dog Shelter Foundation, in front of the press. 👉 The partnership with the “Our Common Cause – Animal Welfare Foundation” — the only animal protection foundation in Europe established by law — aims to promote knowledge- sharing, the transfer of international best practices, the preparation of joint projects, and the strengthening of professional dialogue that transcends national borders. The memorandum highlights the importance of establishing common minimum standards for animal protection in Europe, ensuring the safety and welfare of animals from agriculture to tourism to the film industry. While animal protection is primarily the responsibility of Member States under current EU rules, the parties agreed that developing certain basic standards must be a shared European cause, with Hungary taking a leading and pioneering role in this process. 🇺🇸 Dr. Kashyap Choksi stated: “We have accumulated nearly 150 years of knowledge in the field of animal welfare, and we want to share and expand this expertise in the years ahead, including through partnerships across the European Union. Hungary is one of the first stops in this journey, a country that has already made several exemplary advances in the field of animal welfare, providing a valuable foundation for further joint programs. Protecting the welfare of animals is not a political issue, but a fundamental social and moral commitment – and we view this agreement not as a political act, but as a scientific cooperation grounded on strong professional foundations.” 🇭🇺 Péter Ovádi emphasized: “Hungary has taken exemplary steps in animal protection in recent years. The agreement with the Global Humane Society is another milestone, bringing international expertise to shape the future of animal welfare. It also confirms that Hungary’s progress is now internationally recognized, giving our country a respected place in the global community.” 🇭🇺 Dr. Szilvia Vetter, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the “Our Common Cause – Animal Welfare Foundation,” added: “Hungarian animal protection will only be sustainable if seen in an international context. Cooperation with the Global Humane Society allows Hungary not just to follow but also to shape European developments. This partnership opens a scientific, non-political dialogue. Our Foundation will fully support this joint work, and we are honored that Hungary is among the first to take part in this historic step.” More to come... 😎
