Updates

  • Raising the Standard: ASCE's Vision for Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure The American Society of Civil Engineers is updating its Standard Practice for Sustainable Infrastructure to improve U.S. engineering practices, strengthen urban infrastructure, enhance quality of life, and repair ecosystems. The new standard covers six key areas: Sustainability Leadership, Quality of Life, Resource Allocation, The Natural World, Greenhouse Gas Emissions, and Climate Resilience. We look forward to the panel moderated by Pam McFarland, Senior Editor at Engineering News-Record, featuring Metropolitan Region civil engineering leaders and national experts. The panel will discuss the standard's impact on urban development. A follow-up workshop will gather input from participants to help shape the final version of the standard. We look forward to seeing everyone who has signed up for this exciting event during NY Climate Week.

As we reflect on the 2025 ASCE Met Section Annual Awards Dinner, we would like to take the opportunity to individually thank our two distinguished guests, ASCE President Elect Marsha Anderson Bomar and New York State Senator John Liu. Both of whom went well out of their way to attend and we thank them both for their positive words of encouragement to current and future engineers. We were reminded of the capacity of engineers to shape the future, building the feats that define the great city and region of New York that the Metropolitan Section calls home. Thank you again for coming to support us engineers at ASCE Metropolitan Section and we look forward to seeing you all next year.

  • We hosted our Annual ASCE Awards Dinner on Wednesday June 18th to celebrate the achievements of the industry. Among distinguished individual award recipients, project awards, and recognition of the incredible work of fellow engineers, we also had guest speakers from ASCE President-elect Marsha Anderson Bomar and New York State Senator John Liu. We thank immensely all our sponsors, and all the firms who support their employees efforts. This was a great night to recognize those folks for their efforts and it was a great opportunity to gather and reflect on the impact of civil engineers. Not only did we get to recognize these recipients, but we also swore in our new officers, offered a second opportunity to recognize the talented scholarship recipients, and reaffirmed our commitments as engineers to act ethically and with the best intentions of the public in mind. For all those who attended or supported, we thank you for your support. Our 2025 Awardees: METROPOLITAN SECTION CIVIL ENGINEER OF THE YEAR AWARD - Maria Grazia Bruschi, Parsons Corporation THOMAS C. Thank you to everyone who attended the ASCE Metropolitan Section Geo-Institute of ASCE 49th Annual May Seminar last month! This year's topic was "Confined and Complex" which highlighted the various obstacles geotechnical engineers have to design and cleverly construct around. From vertical clearance restrictions, to adjacent structures/utilities, and unfavorable geotechnical conditions, our nine presentations demonstrated how they were able to creatively overcome these challenges. With 200 attendees, 17 presenters, 15 exhibitors, 23 sponsors, and 3 scholarship winners; this was our most successful event yet! Click the link to check out the papers from this year's seminar! https://lnkd.in/ee6xNB8W A special thank you to the committee members for all their efforts all year: Rajeev Kumar, Tanmay Sankhe, P.E., Camilla Favaretti, PhD, PE, ENV SP, Anthony Gallo, P.E., Alberto Morgante, P.E., Kevin Tse, Jeremy Moon, PE, and Sal D'Amico. And thank you to Krystina Scott and Theresa Rappaport Engler for representing Geo-Institute of ASCE and Deep Foundations Institute!
