Last week, we brought together our Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and Onboarding teams for our annual Summer Connect conference. Guided by this year’s theme, "Engage to Elevate", the event wasn’t just about celebrating wins or aligning on strategy -- it was about recommitting to what matters most: our customers. Every conversation, every breakout, and every keynote centered on reducing complexity, delivering innovation that works in everyday practice, and building the trust that drives lasting partnerships. Our teams left energized and aligned around one goal -- helping practices thrive through disruption, not just survive it. That commitment fuels us, and we’re excited to carry it into the second half of the year. #athenistas #athenahealth #athenaCulture #HealthcareInnovation

Last week we announced our new era of AI-powered interoperability. Our chief executive officer at athenahealth, Bob Segert, discussed how we’re taking the first step toward an AI-native athenaOne — a platform that turns one of the most comprehensive healthcare data sets into real-time insights, embedded directly in the physician’s workflow. AI is advancing at an unprecedented speed, and we’re dedicated to delivering it responsibly and securely—while making it simpler for our customers. This is only the start of what’s to come. #AINative #AmbulatoryCare #CuringComplexity #athenahealth #HealthcareInnovation
For more than 25 years, athenahealth has built technology to make healthcare work better for the people delivering it. From pioneering cloud-based platforms to embedded telehealth, we’ve led the way in transforming how practices work. Today marks another leap forward. With the rollout of intelligent interoperability, we’re taking the first step toward an AI-native athenaOne — a platform that turns one of the most comprehensive healthcare data sets into real-time insights, embedded directly in the physician’s workflow. Early capabilities like enhanced Document Services, ChartSync, and upcoming Intelligent Summaries and Chart Assist are designed to make care delivery easier, faster, and more human. Because we deliver on a single-instance, cloud-native platform, every one of our 160,000+ providers — from solo practices to large groups — will have instant access to these capabilities without costly upgrades or delays. The pace of AI is unlike anything we’ve seen, and we’re committed to delivering it responsibly, securely, and in ways that reduce complexity for our customers. This is just the beginning. AI tools are transforming healthcare by boosting efficiency and opening new ways for physicians to connect with patients. But when these tools come from different vendors, they often exist in separate systems—making it tough for practices to manage multiple log-ins, avoid redundant tasks, and streamline workflows seamlessly. That’s why at athenahealth, we’re doing AI differently. We’re not adding clutter or forcing physicians to work around disconnected tools. Instead, our vision is an AI-native athenaOne® that works as an assistant to your practice, handling the tasks no one wants to tackle. We announced yesterday about ushering in a new era of AI-powered interoperability. Our chief product officer at athenahealth, Paul Brient, dives into what this means and how the “next arc of AI” provides a unique moment to change the paradigm not only for large hospitals who can consume epic software complexity...but also your local ambulatory innovators. #AINative #AmbulatoryCare #CuringComplexity #athenahealth #HealthcareInnovation
August is shaping up to be a very busy month in our corner of the industry, not surprisingly given that AI is evolving faster than that of any wave of healthcare technology in history. The opportunity is clear to revisit intractable issues of burnout and bureaucracy and improve the healthcare experience for clinicians, practice staff, and patients. This “next arc of AI” provides a unique moment to change the paradigm not only for large hospitals who can consume epic software complexity...but also your local ambulatory innovators. Ambulatory care makes up one of the fastest-growing segments of U.S. care delivery and they run lean. One person may handle check-in, prior auth, referrals, and billing. They don’t have a large team to “stand up” complex software. They need AI that just works. This means: 1. You can’t have an AI-native EHR without being cloud-native AI adoption starts with moving health data to the cloud. Patients’ health data lives across settings, in various different formats and servers. As a result, cloud-native EHRs – which exist above the silos of individual practices’ databases to enable data sharing across facilities – are a prerequisite for AI. This was central to the conversation when athenahealth joined 59 other companies at the White House last week to pledge our commitment to enabling open data ecosystems. Smaller practices need software solutions that work behind the scenes and can be turned on with the flip of a switch, where a single upgrade reaches every client simultaneously. Large EHR systems don’t often do that. They require practices to work within their infrastructure and networks, which takes hours of effort from dedicated staff. athenahealth does things differently. 2. AI must be simple and seamless from the front desk to the back office For ambulatory practices, AI needs to be an invisible hand that works as an assistant to your practice – not get in the way. We must think about the entirety of the practice, serving the needs of not only physicians but also the many staff that keep the practice running, thriving. Flashy solutions that create more work for administrative staff – or have steep learning curves – won’t work. 3. AI must be flexible and future-proof the entire practice Ambulatory practices don’t have the resources and staff that large health systems have, when it comes to testing, evaluating, and deploying AI solutions. They need to do more with less. This is the foundation of our athenaOne platform. Deployed on the cloud athenaOne equips all our ambulatory customers with access to the latest, pre-tested AI capabilities, allowing them to try different solutions risk-free. The result? Fewer clicks, faster claims and fewer denials, and more time with patients. Take a look at how we are doing things differently at athenahealth to ensure we deliver on the promise of AI for ambulatory care practices: https://bit.ly/3V5TZ6I.
