BEAM is excited to announce a 4-year partnership with Hudson River Trading. Hudson River Trading (HRT), a global quantitative trading firm that uses advanced math and engineering to trade across more than 200 markets, has been a supporter of BEAM since 2021. Founded in 2002, HRT brings together experts in computer science, physics, and engineering to solve complex problems in finance. The firm is known for its cutting-edge technology and commitment to transparent, efficient markets. HRT’s collaborative culture fosters continuous learning and innovation. BEAM is honored to partner with HRT to build a more equitable future within tech and finance. Through this partnership, BEAM students will learn about the world of quantitative trading, connect with HRT professionals, and gain valuable exposure to potential future careers. HRT’s partnership support will extend across BEAM programs, including our advanced math summer camps and the BEAM Pathway Program, which provides nine years of support from 8th grade through college. HRT will also sponsor BEAM students each year so they can attend external summer programs, help fund high-quality teaching assistants, and contribute to BEAM’s college admissions and college support programs. Prashant Lal, HRT Managing Partner and BEAM Board Member, said, “We’ve partnered with BEAM for several years now, and each year we’re reminded why. Their work opens doors for students who deserve every opportunity to thrive in STEM. Hudson River Trading is proud to continue supporting that mission.” Recently, BEAM and HRT collaborated to host a game night with BEAM students and families, as well as HRT employees. Students connected with HRT professionals through fun games and then were treated to a panel with several HRT employees, who shared their career journeys. BEAM is thrilled to partner with HRT in the years ahead, and HRT is excited to support more students, deepen community ties, and explore new ways to connect through visits, mentoring, and hands-on experiences. “BEAM’s work exemplifies what’s possible when students are given the space, tools, and encouragement to pursue their interests,” said the HRT representative. “We’re honored to be a part of that journey and look forward to what’s ahead.” More about BEAM’s partnership with HRT to come!

Creating pathways for underserved students to become scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and programmers.
About us
The Art of Problem Solving Initiative (originally the Art of Problem Solving Foundation) promotes and provides opportunities for middle and high school students to explore mathematical problem-solving. Our flagship program is Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics (BEAM). BEAM works with underserved students with high potential in mathematics to build realistic pathways for them to become scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and programmers. BEAM offers a summer program after 6th grade and a residential summer program after 7th grade, as well as year-round support and weekend programming extending into college. Our goal is to connect our students to the same resources for advanced study that more affluent students receive. BEAM students have gone on to top high schools, universities, and enrichment programs. For more information, visit the BEAM website at www.beammath.org. In addition to BEAM, AoPSI also runs the USA Mathematical Talent Search, a national mail-in proof-based math contest where students have a month to complete five challenging problems in each round. For more information, visit the USAMTS website at www.usamts.org.

We’re proud to announce that BEAM has been selected as the case site organization for the 2025 Evaluation Capacity Case Challenge, hosted by the Max Bell School of Public Policy at McGill University on May 30–31! The Evaluation Capacity Case Challenge brings together top graduate students from across the U.S. and Canada to tackle a real-world evaluation capacity-building challenge. Each year, participating teams craft innovative, research-backed strategies to help organizations strengthen their evaluation practices and better understand their impact. As this year’s featured case site, BEAM will work closely with these talented teams to address key questions around how we evaluate our programs, measure impact, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. The insights generated will support our ongoing mission to advance equity in STEM. We’re honored to be a part of this exciting event and look forward to applying the recommendations to strengthen our evaluation approach and increase our long-term impact.
