What a joy and an honor to be included on the #ForbesOver50 list alongside my good friend Kristin Hull, PhD and so many incredible changemakers whom I deeply admire. Nearly 20 years ago, Tom Steyer and I founded Beneficial State Bank with a simple belief: banking should be a force for good. Rooted in the principle that ethical banking improves community outcomes, our commitment to environmental, social, and economic well-being allows us to invest in people and projects providing enduring value, not short-term gains. From expanding access in under-resourced communities to pushing for stronger consumer protections, our mission has always been about creating a more just and equitable economy for all. There’s still so much more work ahead—but I’m pausing today with deep gratitude for how far we’ve come together. I’m especially proud to share this honor with so many other remarkable women. #Forbes50Over50 #ImpactBanking #Gratitude https://lnkd.in/gPsVtcwp

  • Nonprofits are facing unprecedented financial pressure. From a temporary federal freeze on billions in grant funding, rising operational costs, and exclusion from funding opportunities that disqualify organizations with DEI-centered missions — the challenges are mounting. Yet, nonprofits remain the backbone of our communities, doing critical work while navigating these complex financial headwinds. So how can banks step up to support them? Read insights from our Director of Client & Community Partnerships, Monique Johnson, on how financial institutions can help nonprofits find stability in uncertain times: https://lnkd.in/ewzwrSuP #NonprofitBanking #CommunityBanking Beneficial State Bank Member FDIC | Equal Housing Lender

  • The dismantling of the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)—an agency originally created after the 2008 financial crisis to protect everyday people from predatory financial practices—has left millions of consumers and working families exposed to fraud and abuse. California is stepping up with new legislation—thanks to Senators Monique Limón and Tim Grayson—to ensure financial institutions remain accountable, even as federal protections weaken.      Beneficial State Bank Member FDIC | Equal Housing Lender

The systematic dismantling of the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has left an alarming number of consumers and working families vulnerable to financial fraud and abuse. California has consistently led the way in advocating for fair financial protections, starting with expanded oversight with the creation of the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) in 2021. Much gratitude to Senate President pro Tempore Designee Monique Limón and Senate Banking Committee Chair Tim Grayson for introducing new legislation to close a loophole in California law to hold financial institutions accountable—even when federal enforcement collapses. Bravo to Richard Cordray, former Director of the CFPB and a nationally recognized voice on consumer financial protection, for his insightful viewpoint on why all Californians deserve robust consumer protections and a fair finance infrastructure. 👏👏  https://lnkd.in/gkGKY8Rs

  • Tomorrow, we celebrate Juneteenth—a day to honor the end of slavery in the United States and the ongoing fight for Black freedom and justice. On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were informed of their freedom — a delayed but powerful moment of liberation. No matter how you choose to observe Juneteenth—whether by attending an event, supporting Black-owned businesses and organizations, or deepening your understanding of its history—we encourage you to take time for reflection, rest, and a continued commitment to justice. As a reminder, all branches and our Customer Care Center will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. Beneficial State Bank Member FDIC | Equal Housing Lender

  • Across the West Coast, housing prices and homelessness rates are among the highest in the nation. One thing is clear: we urgently need more affordable housing. Building it, however, is no easy task. Rising construction costs, unstable funding, and complex zoning laws make every project a challenge. This month, we extend our heartfelt thanks to those who make it their mission to create safe, affordable homes and stronger communities. The future of affordable housing demands innovation and collaboration. As we look ahead, providing funding to build, restore, and preserve affordable housing remains a top priority for us. We’re proud to support and partner with those on the front lines making it happen.
