The Los Angeles Reentry Collaborative came together for it's latest offering, a focus on the intersection between grantmaking and identity in reentry. From Experience to Impact brought together leaders with lived experience, nonprofit professionals and community advocates to explore how authentic identity and organizational clarity can powerfully shape funding opportunities. Speakers included Manny Gomez, a doctoral student and public sector leader; Richard Clarke, founder of Raise Up LA and a post-award grant analyst at UC Irvine; and Keeairra Dashiell, a law student and co-founder of the After Life Initiative. Together, they shared powerful reflections on how personal journeys not only inform reentry work but strengthen it. To learn more go to https://lnkd.in/eeHX_yup

"Investing in prison rehabilitation programs will make California safer" - a former warden of San Quentin prison and former CDCR director urges continued funding for prison programming in a new Op Ed. Ron Broomfield calls on California to "double down" on rehabilitation by funding the Rehabilitative Investment Grants for Healing and Transformation (aka the RIGHT Grant) at a critical time. "Having had the privilege of participating in several rehabilitative programs as a guest over the years," Broomfield continues, "I am convinced that it’s the smartest way for California to move forward." https://lnkd.in/gMTQaGKw

"When we strengthen our connection with one another, we are healthier, more resilient, more productive, more vibrantly creative, and more fulfilled." -Dr. Vivek Murthy, 19th U.S. Surgeon General As Alea introduces council practice, she emphasizes that it builds a foundation of trust and empathy amongst participants. We've heard council practice being described as incredibly "efficient and effective" because it gives everyone what they need and that might look different for everyone in the circle. What's your favorite part about sitting in council?
