Last week, the BioCAD Faculty Externship Experience had the privilege of welcoming Reza Farahani of Katalyze AI as our keynote speaker. Reza delivered an engaging and thought-provoking presentation on the rising demand for data analytics, particularly Python, and the transformative role of AI in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. His insights sparked meaningful discussions and inspired our faculty cohort to envision new ways to prepare the next generation of life science professionals. We are deeply grateful to Reza for sharing his expertise and passion with us.

Last week, the BioCAD Faculty Externship Experience visited the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory for an inside look at cutting-edge innovation. A huge thank you to James Gardner, PhD, Program Manager at the Advanced Biofuels and Bioproducts Process Development Unit (ABPDU), Lawrence Berkeley Labs for an inspiring presentation and an incredible tour of the facility. Always energizing to see the groundbreaking work shaping the future of biofuels and bioproducts.

The faculty learned about applying #Pythonprogramming and statistics to data analysis for #biomanufacturing and other disciplines, and developed #implementation plans to include in their curricula. Look for presentations by the faculty to learn more about the future of biotech (to be scheduled at my Friday meetings).

SCU BioCAD Announcement: 2025 BioCAD Faculty Externship Experience It was a wonderful experience to host the 2025 BioCAD Faculty Externship at Santa Clara University as part of a broader initiative to empower faculty from community colleges to bring data analytics and biomanufacturing programming curriculum into their classrooms. Over the past two months, faculty from biotechnology, engineering, and computer science programs engaged with the SCU BioCAD curriculum (https://www.scubiocad.org/), designed to build fluency in Python for data analytics and programming in biomanufacturing applications. Modular tutorials focused on hands-on exploration of bioprocessing, production operations, and supply chain analytics equipped faculty with practical tools to help students thrive in a rapidly evolving life sciences workforce. The program culminated in a three-day, in-person immersion featuring a life science manufacturing facility tour, conversations with industry professionals, and collaborative work to adapt these tools for classroom use. Congratulations to all the faculty who completed this year’s Faculty Externship!
