Blue Polymers is expanding our product line to include recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET). Utilizing rPET flake from Republic Services’ Polymer Centers, our new Southern California facility is producing food-grade rPET pellets for use in sustainable packaging, helping brands meet minimum content requirements. Adding rPET is a natural fit with our recycled resin product line, which also includes food- and non-food-grade high density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP). The promise of mechanical recycling was plastic products that could be used, collected, processed, and remade time and time again. For decades, consumers faced mixed messaging and options that stopped short of that vision. Even some industry professionals questioned if the concept of true circularity was possible. Today, we're proud to say that recycling has lived up to its potential. With regional plants co-located with Republic Services' plastics recycling facilities, cutting-edge equipment and processes, as well as a total commitment to transparency and quality, Blue Polymers is recycling reinvented. Our growing portfolio of consumer plastic goods is sourced locally, collected and transported responsibly, and turned into clean, high-performance products that offer a longer lifecycle and up to 100% post-consumer-recycled content. • The morning of June 5th marked the grand opening of the Blue Polymers plant in Indianapolis, IN. A historic step for plastics circularity two years in the making, the event brought together Ravago and Republic Services leadership for a short program of speeches, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the facility. Blue Polymers is a leader and pioneer in polymer devolatilization, which removes adhesives, contaminants, and other low-molecular-weight components to achieve an unheard-of 99% material purity. Specializing in consumer-grade polymers such as detergent bottles, bins, and food and beverage containers, the new facility will enable plastic waste that would otherwise be “downcycled” into park benches or construction materials to re-enter the economy in a form identical to its original application. This fulfills the original promise of mechanical recycling, meeting growing demand for PCR resins and setting a new global industry standard. Co-located with a Republic Services polymer center – which offers unmatched feedstock quality thanks to 19 optical sorting machines (compared to the industry standard 6 or 7) – this Blue Polymers location will supply the entire Midwest region with unprecedented durable and non-durable material options, with a PCR content of 30, 55, or 100%. Three more similar facilities will open across the southwestern and northeastern United States over the next two years, each co-located with a Republic Services Polymer Center for optimal efficiency, quality, and sustainability. A big thanks to Pete Keller, VP, recycling and sustainability for Republic Services for a one-on-one tour of the company’s new Polymer Center in Indianapolis, Ind. The secondary sorting facility for PET and polyolefins will provide a new source of high-quality recycled plastics for a range of applications, including food-grade packaging. The facility is located next to Blue Polymers, a joint venture between Republic and Ravago, that converts polyolefins sorted by the Polymer Center. The two plants are designed to work together to produce more than 175 million pounds annually of recycled plastics. The Polymer Center will process waste plastics collected by Republic from homes and businesses in Indiana and nearby states, including PET (water and soda bottles), HDPE (milk jugs or detergent bottles), and polypropylene (to-go cups or margarine tubs). PET will be shredded and washed to produce recycled PET (rPET) flake, which is used to manufacture new beverage bottles. The HDPE and polypropylene will be sorted by color and type then sent to Blue Polymers to be compounded, blended, and pelletized, creating custom drop-in solutions for customers. The Indianapolis recycling complex includes two buildings totaling approximately 300,000 sq ft. Together, the two operations are expected to create about 125 permanent, highly skilled local jobs. #mechanicalrecycling #circulareconomy #circularpackaging #MRF #packagingrecycling #plasticsrecycling
