As trade wars and climate backsliding appear to be holding up #ClimateAction, London Climate Action Week has never been more important. 📢 🌿 London has long been a pioneer for climate innovation and finance and the week-long festival of events brings together people from all over, from business, finance, government, academia, campaign groups, and community organisers, for discussions on how to keep moving forward. One of the most important things we see at Browning is that action on climate can be good for the economy: recent research from the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) and the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit shows that there are one million net-zero jobs in the UK, and this has grown 10% in the last year. 📍Consultants from Browning's London team will be supporting clients and participating at numerous events throughout the week, and would love to connect: please reach out to Adam Short, Georgia Shortman and Karina Moxon. Some of the events we're most excited about include: 🌍 LCAW 2025 Opening – hosted by Wellcome and E3G – June 23 🌍 Climate and the Future of Health - at The Conduit – June 23 🌍 1% for the Planet Party – hosted by Blue Earth – June 25 🌍 Bloomberg Sustainable Business Summit – June 26 🌍World Climate Investment Summit – June 26 Learn more about our team and the services we provide: https://lnkd.in/d7cDFj6F

Every year, we lose land to desertification equivalent in area to the size of Egypt, according to former Browning client UN Convention to Combat Desertification. Today marks #DesertificationandDroughtDay. This year’s theme, “Restore the land. Unlock the opportunities”, focuses on strengthening land management to: 💼 Create jobs 🔒 Boost security 🌀 Protect against extreme weather events 🤝 Build community resilience At Browning, we’re proud to work with UN agencies and development banks, businesses, philanthropy, and NGOs to showcase the multiple social and economic benefits of best practice land management. #Desertification #Drought #ClimateAction #GreatGreenWall

Today on #GlobalWindDay, we at Browning are uplifting WindEurope + Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC)’s campaign #WorkingInWind. The past year in wind was a turbulent one – yet a record 117 gigawatts of wind power capacity were installed worldwide last year, slightly more than in 2023, according to GWEC. Here are a few wind energy developments we’re following closely here at Browning: 🇨🇳 China, the world leader in wind energy, increased its wind power generation capacity to 520 GW last year – up 18% from a year earlier. Installations soared in mainland China last year as provinces raced to meet renewable energy targets by the end of 2025. 🇩🇪 Germany is seeing record volumes of newly permitted projects, which will boost growth over the next few years. In 2024, onshore wind was the country’s single biggest source of electricity, surpassing natural gas, solar, and brown coal. 🇺🇸 Construction just re-started on a massive offshore wind farm spanning 80,000 acres – Empire Wind – off the coast of Long Island. The project is expected to power 500,000 New York homes. The project’s continuation comes after NYC Gov. Kathy Hochul’s successful efforts to reverse a federal stop-work order, sending an important signal that the new administration will honor at least some of its wind contracts. At Browning we’re proud to support clean energy clients across wind, solar, biomass, hydropower, and nuclear. Want to learn more? Get in touch! https://lnkd.in/eP4u9-CF

As we honor #WorldOceansDay, the #UnitedNations Ocean Conference has kicked off in France. The conference is bringing together governments, financial institutions, academics, and the private sector to mobilize all actors around ocean conservation. The three key priorities at this week's talks are: 🐙 Defending ocean ecosystems 🎣 Greater adaption of sustainable ocean economies 🌊 Fighting against illegal fishing The week-long talks aim to end with a new political declaration to protect the oceans called the Nice Ocean Action Plan – a political declaration signed by Member States coupled with their voluntary commitments. The Plan aims to expand marine protections by at least 30% by 2030. As governments and policymakers dial into the importance of ocean health, we’re proud of our work with clients like Back to Blue, a joint ocean health initiative from Economist Impact and The Nippon Foundation that spotlighted often-overlooked research areas like plastic + chemical pollution and ocean acidification. #unoc #OceansDay

Happy #WorldEnvironmentDay! This year, the UN Environment Programme is spotlighting the need to #BeatPlasticPollution. The day is a great opportunity to reflect on the efforts underway to tackle this unique challenge: 🌍 The #UNPlasticsTreaty, a first-of-its-kind global agreement being negotiated by 175 countries. This year’s World Environment Day comes exactly two months before discussions around the Treaty continue, making the months ahead critical for shaping the Treaty’s final form. ♻️ Public and private sector led efforts to improve the circularity and recycling of plastic. 💡 Private sector innovation and technology that can reduce pollution and improve global waste collection. For instance, Browning’s client UBQ Materials is transforming hard-to-recycle plastics and waste destined for landfills into a plastic alternative used to make everyday products. We’re proud to partner with organizations accelerating change and uplifting solutions to end plastic pollution and build a better future. #PlasticPollution #PlasticsTreaty #UnitedNations #Environment #ClimateChange

Biodiversity is the foundation of all life on Earth, including our lives. Today is the International Day for Biological Diversity: this year's theme, harmony with nature and sustainable development, highlights the link between the 2030 Agenda’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. I’m celebrating by sharing a breathtaking encounter that really drove this message home for me. Driving through Patagonia National Park in Chile, I saw a huemul, or ‘South Andean deer’, quietly browsing just off the side of the road. It blended in perfectly with the surrounding brush, shades of brown and yellow illuminated by the morning sun. Critically endangered (estimates suggest there are less than 2,000 of them left), huemules are keystone species in Patagonia, shaping the landscapes around them. A 2022 study published in the journal Ecography identified them as one of the 20 species of large mammals that could help restore the planet’s largest areas and ecoregions. Moments like these drive my work at Browning Environmental Communications as I support clients in endeavors to protect the diversity of life on Earth. In Patagonia, sustainable development initiatives like ecotourism must go hand in hand with conservation to ensure the survival of ecosystems and hopefully, a thriving future where populations of keystone species like huemules rebound. #BiodiversityDay #GlobalGoals #KMGBF
