Updates

  • The CHS oilseed processing plant in Fairmont, Minn., was recently honored with the Above and Beyond Award presented by the Minnesota Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) committee. The award recognizes employers that support their employee's military service by providing assistance or benefits beyond the minimum required by federal law. “CHS is honored to be recognized by this award from the National Guard and I want to thank our employees for their service. We aim to support our employees in all aspects of their lives, especially those who are balancing civilian careers with military service,” said Brandon Nordstrom, director of operations for the Fairmont facility. Dustyn Vandever, sergeant in the Army National Guard and warehouse operations specialist at Fairmont was part of the award as an active-duty employee. “I’m honored to be of service to my country, and CHS has supported me along the way, especially when it comes to transitioning from military service back to my job at the Fairmont facility,” says Vandever. The below photos features (left to right) Paul Ragatz, ESGR member, Brandon Nordstrom, Collin Bewley, operations manager with CHS, and Dustyn Vandever, operations specialist with CHS and sergeant of the Army National Guard.

  • Happy National Intern Day! This summer, we have interns supporting various functions across CHS. Through hands-on projects, mentorship and exposure to the cooperative system, they are applying classroom learning and developing in-demand skills while adding value to our business every day. We're proud to invest in the next generation of talent and see the perspective they bring to CHS. Thank you to our interns for their contributions. • We recently wrapped up our CHS Spirit of Service Days. It's a focused time when teams and individuals from across CHS volunteer in our local communities. This year, our team supported more than 44 volunteer projects that provided restoration and care to local outdoor spaces and aided access to basic needs like hunger and housing. We're proud to see our value of cooperative spirit in action. Thank you to our employees who participated.

  • As part of our summer intern experience, a few senior CHS leaders participate in a Q&A with interns attending in-person or virtually. This year's panel included Rick Dusek, Olivia Nelligan, Brandon Smith and Darin Hunhoff. Their discussion covered several topics, including how they started their careers, their leadership styles, advice for our interns and more. Here's a sample of what they shared: "You have to have a level of trust and relationship with your people... I've seen the best in people when there's a clear vision and you let them go do their job." - Dusek "Continuous learning and development will serve you well. If you have an opportunity to do a stretch project or special assignment and learn new skills, it's a great way to add tools to your toolbelt." - Nelligan "Challenge yourself to find new opportunities, asking if you can offer your services in an area that might not even line up precisely with your job description. Those are the types of things that can help enhance your career trajectory and also bring you greater career fulfillment." - Smith "Be curious and be collaborative... Those are differentiators, whether it's learning the business or getting to know people. Be insanely curious... And that sounds really basic, but it's a big deal." - Hunhoff

We help connect farmers to something larger, says Bryan Lewis, senior director of operations with CHS based in Rochester, Minn. From selling crop inputs and providing agronomic expertise, to buying and marketing grain at harvest, the cooperative model connects local farmers to global supply chains. Lewis oversees grain elevators and ag retail operations for CHS in southeastern Minnesota. His role involves balancing inputs and outputs, inventory and expertise. Learn more about his role and why he chooses to work in agriculture in a recent feature in the Minnesota Star Tribune: https://bit.ly/4kfkssL
