The City of Allentown is proud to be featured in WorkingNation’s latest spotlight, highlighting how we’re building a stronger, more inclusive economy—one that creates real pathways to careers for our residents. With more than 700 manufacturers contributing $9 billion to the region’s GDP, Allentown’s industrial legacy is a foundation we’re actively building upon. Through initiatives like the Recompete Pilot Program, we’re identifying the barriers that prevent residents from accessing good jobs and investing in solutions that work—like neighborhood-scale manufacturing and youth engagement. We’re excited for what’s ahead—and we’re grateful to the partners, businesses, and community leaders helping shape the future of work in Allentown. #CityOfAllentown #WorkforceDevelopment #Manufacturing #InclusiveGrowth #EconomicOpportunity #Recompete #WorkingNation #PAeconomy https://lnkd.in/giAyJS2Q

Earlier this year, we proudly joined the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation's #LoveYourBlock movement alongside 15 U.S. cities. This initiative empowers residents to lead neighborhood revitalization projects with support from the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation and AmeriCorps VISTA. In Allentown, our efforts focus on the Franklin Park area. We’ve met with neighbors at the recent monthly meeting to share updates, listen to concerns, and collaborate on solutions. Together, we’re working on: community events and celebrations, litter cleanups, and small home repairs and code violation mitigation. Love Your Block projects have been shown to foster stronger community ties, increase civic participation, and build trust in local government. We’re excited to see how these efforts will transform Franklin Park and beyond! 📸 : Cohesion

Exciting News! 😆 The City of Allentown was just awarded a $384,000 grant through the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Streets and Roads for All program to advance our Traffic Calming/Safety Demonstration Project and Feasibility Study! This funding will bring vital safety enhancements to our streets, including: 🚦 Pavement markings for “road diets” to narrow lanes and improve safety. 🚦 High-visibility crosswalks and updated signage. 🚦 Speed humps near schools and parks to reduce speeding. 🚦 And more innovative traffic-calming measures! The City launched its Safe Streets for All Action Plan this past spring funded by a separate $312,000 SS4A Action Plan Grant from USDOT. We're working to deliver a final report to Allentown City Council in February 2025. After which, the City will then be eligible to apply for additional implementation and construction USDOT grants. Learn more and follow updates on our progress at www.allentownpa.gov/ss4a .

Earlier this spring, we kicked off the Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Project to develop a comprehensive action plan focused on safety enhancements and preventing roadway deaths and serious injuries in Allentown. We’ve gathered community feedback on key areas of concern, and our consultants are now analyzing the data to incorporate your suggestions into a citywide Safety Action Plan. This project is supported by a $312,000 SS4A grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The final report will be presented to Allentown City Council in February 2025, opening the door for future grants to implement these vital safety measures. For more updates, visit allentownpa.gov/ss4a.
