When the City of Edwardsville got the opportunity to save a former Route 66 service station from demolition in 2022, officials were hoping for BIG things out of its soon-to-be Route 66 visitor center. This week's event definitely qualifies as one of those big things: Bill Thomas, curator of the American Giants Museum in Atlanta, Illinois, will be at the station at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, August 28, as part of its ongoing speaker series. He'll share photos and stories of how the American Giants Museum came to be, its ties to Route 66 and what it all has meant for his tiny town (population roughly 1,640).
