Updates

  • Plymouth was pleased to host Congresswoman Kelly Morrison along with area law enforcement leadership for a press conference this morning highlighting the Pathways to Policing Act, which would authorize funding for state and local police departments to recruit and train new police officers. Rep. Morrison, Plymouth Public Safety Director Erik Fadden, Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt and Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges spoke to the media to share insights about their respective agency's recruitment and retention efforts, including how the Pathways to Policing program has played a beneficial role in public safety staffing. The program helps create opportunities for candidates with nontraditional backgrounds/existing professions to change course and enter law enforcement careers. • July is National Parks and Recreation Month. Let's meet some of our team players.   Katie Langland is Plymouth's destination marketing coordinator. In this role, she heads Hello! Plymouth, which is responsible for promoting the city as vibrant destination for visitors, community members and residents. Hello! Plymouth helps showcase the city's restaurants, hotels, events and attractions to help generate economic impact and support local tourism businesses.   Steve Frankhouser, our volunteer coordinator, is responsible for managing the city's robust volunteer program. He works with every city department to arrange volunteer opportunities for Plymouth's 2,000+ active volunteers. Last year, volunteers dedicated 23,307 hours to helping our community, which truly is a testament to how much residents care about Plymouth and contribute to our mission of adding quality to life.

  • July is National Parks and Recreation Month! Today, let's meet some of our Champions of Play.   Alyssa Fram is our recreation and arts supervisor. Alyssa is the reason we have new, beautiful art in the PCC Art Gallery every month. She also helps coordinate other public art initiatives in Plymouth.   Brennen, our recreation program coordinator, does a lot for the City of Plymouth. Whether organizing swim lessons, pool parties or other aquatics programs, or helping coordinate the Plymouth Farmers Market, Brennen keeps Plymouth's recreation offerings fresh and fun.   Lori Buske is a member of our guest services staff at the Plymouth Community Center. Lori has been with us since the PCC opened, and she loves greeting people and seeing the smiling faces of everyone who comes through the building.

  • July is National Parks and Recreation Month! Today, we celebrate the builders that make our parks and amenities possible.   Sonya Rippe is the project supervisor for the City of Plymouth. Sonya oversees construction of park projects, including playgrounds, trails, facilities, signage, sport courts, playfields and more. To Sonya, "Parks & Recreation isn’t just a profession—it’s a calling. It’s about building spaces where communities can connect, grow, and thrive."   Steve Langer is our operations supervisor at the Plymouth Ice Center. Steve oversees all part-time and full-time staff. Because of him, the Plymouth Ice Center programs run smoothly.   Nick McKenzie has been in the Parks and Forestry Division for over 3 years. Nick and his coworkers are the reason Plymouth has such beautiful and well-maintained parks and trails.

  • Plymouth Police participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics this past weekend. Officers from agencies across the state participate in the run each June as the torch makes it way from Greater Minnesota to the Twin Cities metro area.    Plymouth officers carried the Special Olympics Minnesota Flame of Hope from Zachary Playfield in Plymouth to the Golden Valley border. There, the Golden Valley Police Department took the torch and continued the run.
