Flood recovery is a team effort. Over the past two weeks, City of Milwaukee Health Department staff have stepped in to support Milwaukee’s flood response, as part of a much larger effort led by City, County, and federal partners. Our Emergency Preparedness team mobilized staff across the department to help the City assess damages, and coordinated 2,000+ cleaning kits for affected residents. MHD’s Consumer Environmental Health team has also been working with businesses to guide safe cleanup and reopening. At the same time, MHD staff answered the call this week to help Milwaukee Public Schools prepare for their first day of class, following a whirlwind summer of lead hazard inspections, cleanup, and renovations. I’m glad Mayor Cavalier Johnson and Congresswoman Gwen Moore had the opportunity to meet MHD staff in the field on Friday, many of whom were also impacted by the floods, and thank them directly for their dedication.
