The remarkable progress being made in the medical device field, in areas like spinal cord regeneration, highlights the importance of continuous learning and growth in professional settings. These advancements are the result of individuals and teams committed to researching new ideas and finding innovative solutions. In being able to promote neural activity in damaged areas that were once deemed irreversible, the world of healthcare is slowly inching towards being able to repair spinal cord injuries. For our 3rd annual Curebound Cancer Challenge, Concuir Consulting had the honor of hosting a rest stop as a team. In 2017, I lost my mother to cancer. SoftFoot Pro is a prosthetic foot developed by Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia to provide a versatile alternative for those who have lost one or both of their feet. While standard prosthetic feet use a flat base to provide stability, doing so limits the ability to walk on sloped surfaces or uneven ground, which requires flexion in your feet. SoftFoot Pro takes this design one step further by employing principles of soft robotics to model its design after the structure of the human foot. The result? • Lightweight, at just 450 grams • Load capacity up to 100 kilograms • Adapts to different terrain • No electronics = No power source and waterproof! Because soft robots are intended to work alongside and assist humans with tasks that require delicate handling, they often employ this concept of biomimicry to take inspiration from nature in order to emulate human behavior.
