Exciting news! We have made four new appointments to our Senate, the governing body that helps shape the strategic direction of the university. Baroness Sue Gray and Dr Feargal McCormack have been announced as Pro-Chancellors. They’ll play a key role in guiding the University’s future, supporting governance, and acting as global ambassadors for Queen’s. We also welcome Ms Anna Beggan and Mr Lyle (L.A.) Watters as new Lay Members of Senate. Both bring invaluable experience and and will contribute significantly to Senate and its committees. This is a unique opportunity for our new appointees to make a meaningful impact on education, society, and the future of the University at an important time for the higher education sector. 🔴 Baroness Gray, Pro-Chancellor, is widely recognised for her distinguished service in UK and Northern Ireland public life, including as Chief of Staff to the UK Prime Minister and Permanent Secretary at the Northern Ireland Department of Finance. She currently serves as Chair of Consello, UK. 🔴 Dr McCormack is currently Senior Partner at AAB Group and a former President of Chartered Accountants Ireland. Consello is proud to partner with Queen's University Belfast to support the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security, and Justice. Our collaboration aims to build a permanent home for the Institute, which will serve as a global center of excellence for the study of conflict resolution and peacebuilding. The Institute is named in honor of Senator Mitchell, whose unparalleled contributions to the establishment of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998 have left a lasting impact on Northern Ireland and peacebuilding efforts around the world.   The Senator’s remarkable efforts have been highlighted in the new documentary, The Negotiator. The film recounts his journey from Maine to Washington DC to being appointed special envoy for Northern Ireland by President Clinton, where his diplomacy, patience, and an unwavering commitment to dialogue led to the resolution of the decades-long conflict.   The film made its US Premiere last night at the Maine International Film Festival. Yesterday marked another special day for Consello.   We started the day by welcoming Baroness Sue Gray, CBE, as Chair of Consello UK. Sue’s unparalleled experience and leadership ability will be invaluable as we continue to grow our presence and capabilities in the UK market. The event convened prominent business leaders in NYC and was highlighted by an insightful discussion between one of the book’s co-authors, close friend of the firm, and CEO of GE Vernova, Scott Strazik, interviewed by Bloomberg Television’s Caroline Hyde. The two dove deep into key themes from the new edition, which examines unyielding challenges business are facing and how leaders like Scott are turning them into forces for growth.   Our thanks to all the incredible authors who shared their insights in this year’s book, including Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta Airlines, Elaine C., Sir Sajid Javid, Gavin Patterson, Mindy Grossman, Janey Whiteside, John Herlihy, Alice Breeden, Heidi Andersen, and Mark Mulhern.
