  • 🦄 One week to go until the Startup People Summit 🦄 Cultivate's Founder, Kate Williams, will joined by Lindsey Stockert to unpack a topic they've both navigated more times than they'd like to admit: “The Hidden Employee Relations Landmines in Start-ups.” They’ve seen both ends, from building through the early-stage chaos and later cleaning it up in big tech environments. Kate and Lindsey will be pulling back the curtain on the kinds of issues that don’t make it onto pitch decks but absolutely shape the success (or failure) of a start-up. Expect real talk, practical takeaways, and a candid look at what People Leaders must do to safeguard culture before the cracks turn into something must bigger. 🎟️ One week left - grab a spot via the link in the comments. 📅 31 July 🖥 Online 👥 Open to People Leaders, Founders, Operators & anyone building from the inside out. 📍Session: From Founder Fallout to Team Toxicity: The Hidden Employee Relations Landmines in Start-ups (last tickets available)

  • At Cultivate, we work with founders who carry the weight of tough decisions every day—often alone. We see it, we hear it, and we know firsthand how isolating entrepreneurship can be. But we also know it doesn’t have to be that way. In this piece, Kate Williams shares a candid take on the loneliness of building a business, why competition doesn’t have to be cutthroat, and how entrepreneurs can create the right ecosystem to make the journey less isolating. 👇 Read on and join the conversation—how do you navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship?

Entrepreneurship is often sold as freedom, but no one warns you about the loneliness. Founders carry the weight of every decision—sometimes without even realising how heavy it gets. I've seen it firsthand through my work with founders and felt it myself running my own business. But here's the good news: competition can be camaraderie, and the right people can turn the journey from isolating to energising. Personally, I want to hear more real-talk about the reality of building a business—what worked, what didn't work, and how we can support each other. #startups #founders #business #ecosystems

  • 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀 (𝗘𝗣) 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹, 𝘀𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗺, 𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴. These days, there are many different considerations on both the individuals' and the Company's side. However, when you are prepared, you have a very high chance of success. Here are our key tips to improve your chances of a successful application: 1️⃣ 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 & 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 Before applying, check all requirements from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), including: ✅ A minimum fixed monthly salary (varies by age and industry but starts at SGD 5,600 for new applications and creeps higher for older, specialised, or those in the financial services industry). ✅ Recognised educational qualifications and (OR) relevant work experience. ✅ A job scope that matches their experience and industry standards. 2️⃣ 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹 (𝗦𝗔𝗧) MOM provides a Self-Assessment Tool (SAT) to check what salary a candidate will likely qualify for a pass. This can help avoid unnecessary rejections and speed up the process (linked in comments). If you are a job seeker, use this tool to ensure you are armed with the knowledge of your likely minimum salary requirement. Unfortunately, most hiring managers and HR teams aren't aware or equipped with the right expertise. 3️⃣ 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆 A well-prepared application speeds up processing. Ensure you have: ✅ All the necessary information handy so you can complete an application form - personal data, education, employment history, and it goes on….it feels like a long list if you aren't prepared. ✅ Educational certificates and Education Verification via an approved background screening company. ✅ Company's business profile & job description to justify why a foreign hire is needed. The MOM will likely ask for this information throughout the approval process. ✅ Any supporting documents for specialised roles or industries (e.g., professional certifications). 4️⃣ 𝗕𝗲 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗔𝗦𝗦 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 EP applications now go through the Complementarity Assessment Framework (COMPASS), which assesses: ✔️ Salary competitiveness ✔️ Educational qualifications ✔️ Company’s diversity & local employment contributions ✔️ Skills in demand in Singapore 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝘂𝘀 𝗧𝗶𝗽: 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 If unsure, engage an experienced employment agent to improve your chances of approval. Cultivate has a 100% success rate and can guide you through the process step-by-step. 👋 Reach out to our team to find out more - Huixian Foo and Kate Williams
