🧠 How early can we detect a migraine before it begins? A study published in Healthcare by researchers at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University and Vilnius University explores the use of physiological signals captured during sleep to anticipate the onset of migraine attacks. Using the Empatica EmbracePlus and E4 wearables, researchers monitored ten individuals with episodic migraine and applied multiple machine learning models to analyze changes in electrodermal activity, skin temperature, and movement patterns. Short analysis windows of just 5 to 10 minutes during nocturnal sleep revealed significant physiological shifts during pre-migraine nights, suggesting that early detection may be possible with the right combination of biosensor data and algorithmic insight. The research adds to a growing body of evidence that continuous, high-resolution physiological monitoring can reveal previously invisible patterns in chronic neurological conditions.
