Marines, Sailors, Civilian Marines, and Friends of the Corps, On August 29, 2025, we mark the 109th anniversary of the Marine Corps Reserve, a force that has answered our Nation’s call in every major conflict since 1916. From the trenches of Belleau Wood to the streets of Fallujah and beyond, Reserve Marines have stood shoulder to shoulder with their Active Component counterparts, bringing the same skill, grit, and unwavering commitment to the mission. This anniversary carries added meaning here in New Orleans. Twenty years ago, Hurricane Katrina devastated this city and the Gulf Coast. It was Reserve Marines, our Marines, who were among the first to respond, providing rescue, security, and hope when their own families and homes were in the storm’s path. Their service, then and now, demonstrated what it means to be a citizen Marine: balancing family, career, and community, yet always ready to answer the call. Today, as we honor 109 years of service and sacrifice, we also reflect on the resilience of this city we call home. Just as New Orleans rebuilt stronger after Katrina, the Marine Corps Reserve continues to adapt, modernize, and prepare for the fights ahead. 😎 This week on Tuesday and Wednesday, I had the privilege of supporting Flatter Leadership Academy's Inaugural AÇAI Live event — a focused, hands-on lab designed to accelerate responsible AI adoption across federal, defense, and mission-driven sectors. Over the course of two intensive days, participants: • Designed and deployed 47+ purpose-built GPTs • Conducted 93+ AI Chats with their GPTs, generating work products that they can use in their workflows • Explored agentic workflows and connectors in GPT-5 • Received tailored executive assistant GPTs for immediate use, and trained on how to export these into other LLM environments. • Engaged in critical dialogue on AI ethics, limitations, and alignment with public service values • Received AI Champion Credly Badges This effort would not have been possible without the leadership and partnership of my co-facilitators, Lucas Flatter and Aboudi— your technical clarity and facilitation strength were instrumental in shaping the learning experience. Deep thanks as well to Reno, Christian, and Patrick Alston for lending their operational expertise and insight to the group — particularly around security, autonomy, and responsible deployment in defense settings. This two day event was about preparing professionals to lead AI integration with discipline, with empathy, and with a clear understanding of both the opportunity and the obligation. From governance to generative tools, the conversations were rich. The creativity was bold. And the commitment to ethical, people-centered innovation was clear. The future of work is already reshaping how we lead, serve, and secure — and I’m proud to be part of a team that equips others to meet that future with clarity and courage. No new program starts allowed; focus remains on recompetes. 📊 Federal Spending Snapshot DoD continues to lead FY25 obligations. Expect agencies to push heavy in Q4. 🧠 AI & Cyber Updates Agencies are now rolling out OMB memos M‑25‑21 and M‑25‑22, aiming for faster, domestic-aligned AI deployment. DoD’s CMMC implementation remains on track—starting October 1, 2025, all new DoD contracts will require the appropriate cybersecurity certifications. 📒 FAR Watch Proposed inflation adjustments are expected to raise the Simplified Acquisition Threshold from $250K to $350K effective Oct 1, 2025, potentially expanding simplified access for mid-tier contract opportunities. 💡SBIR Spotlight (In place of RFQ of the week) The U.S. Army recently released three Phase I SBIR topics offering up to $250K each (for feasibility studies lasting up to six months): Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning (A254‑048) Sensor Technologies (one topic unspecified above) Detailed topic information and timelines are available on the Army SBIR|STTR portal.
