About us
FoodCorps is a national nonprofit advancing child well-being through food in school. FoodCorps partners with students, families, and communities to champion nourishing food at local, state, and national levels. Our AmeriCorps members support schools in providing nutritious meals, locally-informed food education, and welcoming school environments that set kids up for positive, vibrant relationships with food. Building on this program, we develop leaders, grow networks, and advocate for policies in service of every kid’s health and well-being. FoodCorps is working toward a world where, by 2030, all 50 million public school students have access to food education and nourishing meals in school. Learn more at www.foodcorps.org.

Good legislation alert: The CARE for Kids Act of 2025 was introduced on July 16 by Rep. Jahana Hayes (D‑CT) with bipartisan support from Reps. Don Bacon (R‑NE) and Deborah Ross (D‑NC). The bill aims to expand access to free school meals for children living in kinship care and other non-traditional caregiving arrangements. FoodCorps is committed to a future where every child has access to nourishing meals in school. This bill is an important step for strengthening vital pathways to free meals for student who may otherwise fall through the cracks. Read the bill text here → https://lnkd.in/gJwNYG_H

Ever tried a taste test at home? 🤔🍽️ It’s a simple, fun way to get kids curious about new foods and flavors — and even revisit old favorites in new ways! 🌽🍎 At FoodCorps, we use taste tests in schools to help kids build healthy habits, but they’re just as great at home for getting little ones involved in the kitchen and learning what tastes and textures they love. School meals are an essential school supply, keeping kids fed and ready to learn all school year long. But what happens during the summer months when kids can’t rely on the nutritious meals they typically eat at school? Enter summer meals programs, or SUN programs, the USDA’s answer to feeding students when school is out. On our blog, learn how SUN programs connect kids to #summermeals all over the country—and how you can get involved. https://lnkd.in/gUVR8p_P

The past few months have been some of the most challenging in FoodCorps’ history. The government has decimated #AmeriCorps, the federal agency that’s long supported our work, and has not renewed its partnership with FoodCorps. As a result, we’ve had to reduce our budget by over 40% and reimagine our work outside the AmeriCorps framework that’s supported us since the beginning. While this is a major shift, our mission holds steady: place-based, community-led work in service of child well-being. This year, we’ll partner with schools in eight states, develop new approaches to our impact by working with people embedded in the food and education systems, and continue to mobilize supporters like you to advocate for the policies our kids deserve. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dapCapcx This transition hasn’t been easy—but we’re building a stronger, more sustainable FoodCorps for the future. We’re deeply grateful for your continued support through this moment of transformation. PS: There’s never a bad time to donate to FoodCorps, but now is an especially good one. Thank you for standing with us in this critical time. foodcorps.org/donate

Today, Congress passed a reconciliation package that makes drastic and harmful changes to SNAP — the nation’s most effective anti-hunger program — and eliminates SNAP-Ed, the only federal program dedicated to nutrition education. Nearly half of SNAP participants are children. The effects of these cuts will be deeply felt across communities, placing added strain on families, schools, and local food systems. Fewer families will be able to afford groceries, schools will face greater challenges providing fresh, nutritious meals, and access to essential food education will diminish. This bill is part of a broader pattern of policy rollbacks that threaten the systems communities depend on to put food on the table. It’s a devastating disinvestment in children, families, and the local food systems we all rely on. We remain committed to working with schools, families, community partners, and policymakers to protect the programs that help children thrive. ACTION ALERT 🚨Today, the Senate passed a reconciliation bill that would make harmful, unprecedented cuts to SNAP and other vital programs families rely on. If this bill becomes law: Millions of families could lose critical resources to keep food on the table, fewer children would automatically qualify for free school meals, and schools, already short-staffed, will struggle to keep up with increased administrative burdens. This is our last chance to act before it heads to the House for a final vote. Email your House Representative and urge them to vote NO on this harmful bill – https://p2a.co/UinaPRI
