Before that, he focused on propulsion technologies at McLaren, known for its high-performance vehicles and successful Formula 1 team. His doctoral work with Jaguar Land Rover centered on developing one of the earliest anti-roll control systems with AI optimization techniques. Over his career, Sunoj has helped bring some of the world’s most advanced electric vehicles and cutting-edge battery technologies to life. Now, he’s bringing that deep technical background to Form - driving critical engineering efforts as we develop the next generation of Form’s multi-day energy storage systems. We’re excited to share that Tobias Schmieg has joined Form Energy as Vice President of Product Engineering, leading the team of engineers responsible for continuing to innovate upon Form’s breakthrough iron-air batteries. Tobias brings extensive experience in global energy storage and EV battery systems, built during his time as VP of Product Development at Gotion Inc. and nearly a decade at BMW Group. At Gotion, he led a global team spanning the U.S., Europe, and Asia, driving the design of advanced battery systems and overseeing large-scale manufacturing efforts. At BMW, he was central to the development of four generations of EV battery technology – from the pioneering i3 and i8 models to today’s latest electric models. His work contributed to the electrification of millions of vehicles worldwide. Tobias’s deep leadership track record and technical expertise in developing next-generation battery systems will be instrumental as we continue to scale our iron-air battery solutions across the U.S. and worldwide. A recent report from the American Clean Power Association (ACP) shows clean energy manufacturing is a massive driver of U.S. job growth, supporting 122,000 high-paying American jobs today and an expected 575,000 jobs by 2030. 🚀 Here are some more of the top findings from the “America Builds Power” report: 🏠 The clean energy manufacturing workforce made an average of $42,000 more than the average worker in the U.S. economy in 2024 📈 The industry contributes $18B annually to GDP, with projections showing $86B in annual contributions by 2030 🇺🇸 Clean power manufacturing spurs $33B in domestic spending annually, with economic output projected to jump to $164B annually by 2030 We’re proud to be part of the resurgence in American manufacturing—bringing good jobs and opportunities to workers and communities across the country.
