Wondering how your company should collect scope 3 emissions data? Collecting scope 3 emissions data is likely to require wider engagement within the reporting company, as well as with suppliers and partners outside of the company, than is needed to collect scope 1 and scope 2 emissions data. Companies may need to engage several internal departments, such as procurement, energy, manufacturing, marketing, research and development, product design, logistics, and accounting. Chapter 7 of the Scope 3 Standard provides a four-step approach to collecting and evaluating data: https://bit.ly/4j8fZZo For more answers to frequently asked questions, check out our Scope 3 FAQ: https://bit.ly/3XbmrFO

📢 📰Quarter 2 2025 Technical Working Groups Update: GHG Protocol currently has five Technical Working Groups in process. Below is a high-level update about what each workstream has been working on between April and June 2025. 🏢Corporate Standard Technical Working Group discussed topics including updates to GHG accounting and reporting principles (Subgroup 1), choosing a base year and base year recalculation policy (Subgroup 1), updates to the financial control and operational control consolidation approaches (Subgroup 2), refinements to a scope 3 reporting requirement (Subgroup 3) and justifiable exclusions in reporting scope 1 and scope 2 emissions (Subgroup 3). 💡Scope 2 Technical Working Group has continued refining proposed revisions to the location-based and market-based inventory methods, while a subgroup has developed proposals for reporting the consequential GHG emission impacts of electricity-related actions. In June, the full TWG held an indicative vote on both sets of proposals. These materials will be reviewed by the Independent Standards Board (ISB), which will determine whether and how each workstream proceeds to public consultation later this year. 🚛 Scope 3 Technical Working Group has reviewed the first package of scope 3 revisions, including data disaggregation in reporting, boundary setting and exclusion threshold, and category 15 (investments). The revisions will be provided to the ISB for consideration on July 28th. The second phase of the TWG is set to commence at the end of August. ⚙️Actions and Market Instruments Technical Working Group is synthesizing and refining proposals for a more comprehensive and transparent corporate GHG accounting and reporting structure, with disaggregated reporting of physical GHG inventory emissions and new reporting element(s) for the impacts of actions and market instruments. Specific approaches and details are still being developed. 🌳Forest Carbon Accounting Technical Working Group finalized two forest carbon accounting proposals and were unable to reach a consensus on which proposal to recommend. The ISB is currently considering both proposals and has begun discussing the tradeoffs shared by FCA TWG members. ➡️ You can view the materials from Technical Working Group meetings in GHG Protocol’s Standards Development and Governance Repository: https://bit.ly/3XFRkCP
