📝 We have responded to EFRAG’s consultation on amending the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (#ESRS) – part of the #EUOmnibus simplification drive. ⚠️ We warn that weakening impact disclosures goes against EFRAG’s mandate to align with global standards - which risks adding costs for companies, and hindering the comparable disclosure stakeholders need. ✉️ In a letter from GRI CEO Robin Hodess, and GSSB Chair Carol Adams, we ask EFRAG to 👉 ✅ Eliminate ambiguity for companies by aligning with GRI’s well-established definition of impact materiality; ✅ Enhance interoperability with global standards, when deciding mandatory datapoints to retain; ✅ Address reduced ESRS coverage by using #GRIStandards to fill the gaps; ✅ Reconsider use of net-based approach to impact assessment, as it risks undermining reliable reporting. 🌎 Yesterday in NYC, we participated in a highly engaging event, as part of the United Nations Global Compact #GCLeadersSummit 🌐 📈 On the theme ‘Data to Impact, the New Era of #SustainabilityReporting’, our CEO Robin Hodess was joined on the panel by GRI Supervisory Board Member Esther An (also CSO City Developments Limited). 💬 Discussions centered on the growing demands for reporting that is interoperable, comparable & data-driven. It was a good opportunity to emphasize GRI’s global role in enabling transparency on #impacts 💡 #UNGA #ClimateWeekNYC

Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) reposted this
Thrilled to be back in New York City for #ClimateWeekNYC and #UNGA2025 – a key moment to bring governments, companies, civil society and other stakeholders together to address global sustainability challenges. Despite and because of geopolitics -- the #climatecrisis requires intense collaboration. It also needs accountability. Corporate reporting is part of the information ecosystem we need for change. The new #GRI102 Standard for #ClimateChange has a part to play – driving transparency on how organizations can reduce #GHGemissions, through science-based reporting that supports a #justtransition. Hope to see many of you this week!

📋 We have responded to the UK Department for Business and Trade consultation on #sustainabilityreporting standards (UK SRS S1 & UK SRS S2). ⚠️ Our response raises concern that the draft focuses only on reporting risks & opportunities, and we call on the UK to look beyond financial materiality alone. GRI stands ready to support them in achieving a balanced approach - which starts with transparency on the #impacts of companies - in order to: ✅ Achieve global competitiveness & comparability. ✅ Meet the information demands of investors & financial institutions. ✅ Build on existing UK rules related to impact disclosure. ✅ Support their ambition to be a world leader in sustainable finance & clean energy. 💡 A concrete recommendation: to provide adequate support to companies in high-impact sectors to manage impacts, risks & opportunities (#IROs), the new regulations must reference use of #GRISectorStandards.
