Still wrestling with SSH keys and messy .ssh/config? There's a better way: Teleport. Thank me later! 🙂 Getting started is simple: 1. Spin up a small EC2 instance (t4g.small works great) and set up your Teleport cluster. 2. Install the Teleport agent on all your servers to register them. 3. Tag servers with labels like name=loki, env=staging, project=xyz — makes filtering and grouping straightforward. 4. Do the same for all your instances. Now you have a single place to connect to every server. No more syncing SSH keys or hunting for IP addresses. Plus, you get session recording, audit logs, and features to help with compliance (like ISO 27001). And Teleport isn't just for SSH. You can also control access to: Kubernetes clusters, Internal web apps, etc.

Today, on the last day of #BlackHat, I thought I would offer a throwback to 30 years ago. Thirty years ago, I was a marketing manager at my first tech startup. And, at some point in 1995, I had a seven minute speaking slot at Internet World. I was kind of new to conference presentations. It was main stage, and there were a thousand people in the audience. The topic? cgi-bin. Yes, literally that many people wanted to understand cgi-bin, because that was where you could run executables and change your static HTML page with the flashy gifs and garish font into an actual data-driven application, now with a UI that could be accessed from anywhere. Enter, one year later, the whole trend of self-service apps, web-native apps, and terraforming of the business app landscape. I don't think I talked about that, though. I talked more about how it intersected with http and the technical mechanics of it. People were still trying to get their head around what was http and a Universal Resource Locator, and why that was better than white pages. There was a lot of note taking during my brief talk. Lately, so many people are writing about MCP and agentic AI. I'm one of them! I just came across a web page this morning with this phrase: "MCP-compliant agentic AI." And it reminded me of that conference presentation. And again, we are all so centered on the technology. However, the interesting part of this is that we are at the front end, again, of a major terraforming era. I imagine, if I were a data architect, this might be a really interesting time to think about the next generation of applications.
