Our technology gives all Americans — regardless of income or insurance status — the knowledge, choice, and care they need to stay healthy. Since 2011, we’ve helped Americans save over $35 billion on prescriptions via savings cards, our website, and the GoodRx app, which is one of the most downloaded medical apps on both the Google Play and Apple App Store.     In communities across the country, Americans are navigating life in a healthcare desert. Our new documentary-style video brings the data to life, sharing powerful stories from people who face real barriers to getting the care they need. The video accompanies the latest research from the GoodRx Research team, which finds that more than 120 million Americans, roughly one in three, live in a healthcare desert. These are areas where access to essential services like pharmacies, primary care, hospital beds, or trauma care is limited or out of reach. Since 2021, more than 1,300 pharmacies have closed, hospital access has remained stagnant, and the burden continues to fall hardest on low-income and uninsured communities.     Access to convenient, affordable healthcare is vital in keeping our communities healthy. But for Americans living in more than 80% of U.S. counties–home to over 120 million people–there is a lack of access to essential services like pharmacies, trauma centers, primary care, and community health clinics. Today, GoodRx released new data showing that healthcare deserts impact roughly 1-in-3 Americans. As part of this, our team visited rural Humboldt County, Nevada—a prime example of a healthcare desert—to speak with residents about the access issues they face. Here, people have few options for filling their prescriptions and often have to drive substantial distances to do so. Emergency care workers cover geographic areas larger than many U.S. states, and healthcare professionals serve a broad range of medical needs that are often exacerbated by delays in care. Addressing the growing trend of healthcare deserts requires innovative solutions that take the burden off consumers and healthcare professionals alike. This is something we’re focused on at GoodRx. From offering e-commerce solutions so consumers can check a pharmacy’s medication inventory and pay before leaving their home, to providing healthcare professionals with ample savings opportunities for their patients so they can cut down on administrative time, we’re working to eliminate friction in the system for the people who need it most.
