My CMO (👋 Emily Ritter) recently said AI lets us become 10x marketers. But I don’t think we all share the same definition of a 1x marketer. (Or engineer. Or analyst. Or any role...) Yes, I use AI to spar, edit, summarize, debug, brainstorm—basically everything. That’s the baseline now, and what we mean when we say “10x yada yada.” But it made me pause: 10x what, exactly? I joined the workforce right before LLMs changed how we work. Early enough to glimpse the “before,” but not long enough to really live it. 👉 I never debugged SQL line by line. 👉 Never wrote a GACC without the ability to summarize my ramblings in a click. 👉 Never stared down the terrifying “Start a post” box on LinkedIn without a few visits to ChatGPT. I'm supposed to be a 10x marketer, but was I ever a 1x marketer? Do I even know what that looks like? It reminds me of the concept of queer elders (🌈)—people who carry memory forward so newer generations don’t lose the thread of what came before. I think we need that same role in the AI era. As more of the incoming workforce becomes AI-native, someone has to make sure we: 🧐 Stay curious, not just efficient ☺️ Stay grateful for the time we’ve saved 🤨 Stay cautious about what we might lose if we automate every single thing So, to my former-1x-marketers: ❓What’s something you’re jealous future generations will never have to do manually? ❓Conversely: What's something you’re glad you learned the hard way?
