Before you build anything, realize this: A product is not a feature set. It’s a promise. To make life easier, better, faster, or more fulfilling for someone specific. And product strategy? That’s the system behind this promise. Over the years, I’ve noticed a simple truth: Most failed products didn’t lack design or engineering. They lacked understanding. So here’s what I’ve learned (and now practice religiously): 🎯 The Core of Product Strategy 1. Know the Job to Be Done “Why would someone hire your product?” It’s not for your dashboard or clean UI. It’s to solve a job in their life. 📌 Example: People don’t buy a drill. They buy a hole in the wall. 2. Fall in Love with the Problem, Not the Solution Innovation is not brainstorming. It’s empathy + obsession with one pain your users live with daily. If your team is more excited about the tech than the pain it solves, you’re already off track. 3. Design Around Use, Not Features How does someone discover, use, and benefit from your product in the real world? Your onboarding is as important as your “killer” feature. The exit path is as important as the entry. 4. Launch Ugly. Iterate Beautiful. MVP isn’t a minimal version of your dream. And doing it in a way that 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞 — sustainably, profitably, and purposefully. "𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬.  𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲, 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚 𝐢𝐬 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐢𝐬𝐞." 📌 I’ve seen this in our staffing operations. We didn’t just “connect talent to jobs.” We re-engineered 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬, 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐮𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐝. It’s rarely that simple. Don't get me wrong. These steps are helpful, YES. They give us a direction, a structure, a sense of clarity. Very True! But what they don’t show is: ❌ The days when the “big idea” doesn’t feel big enough. ❌ The strategy that has to be rewritten from scratch. ❌ The team members who leave halfway. ❌ The marketing that doesn't get results. ❌ The funding that doesn’t come. ❌ And the “launch” that takes longer than expected.
