AI interview review: 4 out of 5 stars. Has anyone else done an AI interview yet? This was my first.
The rating probably skews a little high because the AI stoked my ego by giving a "near-perfect fit" rating for the role (see image for excerpt). 😎
Positives:
- writing out answers instead of speaking them was much less stressful
- UI was mostly intuitive to use
- it felt like having an actual conversation. The AI would respond thoughtfully (and encouragingly) to my answer as a lead in to the next question
- receiving a written report evaluating alignment between my responses and the role/organization
Deltas:
- took much longer than the 10 minutes they said it would take (more like 20-30)
- pressing 'enter' moved forward to the next question instead of adding a line break, so I had to keep asking the AI to go back to the previous question (which it did!)
- there was no indication of reaching the end. The cursor just blinked like it was thinking for a really long time....and then an email came through with my report, so I realized it must be done
Since the questions were in perfect lockstep with typical first round interview questions, I'm curious if the human interviewer will repeat asking these same questions.
Final thoughts:
The AI interview brings a new dimension to interviewing, since there's no chance to build rapport and "get people to like you". I can see how this would eliminate some bias from the process and be more inclusive for folks who shine when they have time to thoughtfully craft responses. I wonder how long until candidates type the prompt into their own ChatGPT and then paste the given response back to the AI interviewer. Or create an AI agent to do interviews for them. We've already largely moved interviews from in person to video call. Maybe the next evolution is AI to AI with no humans involved? We can all do job interviews in our sleep!
For those wondering, the AI interview company was HireAligned.
