  • NFPA 285 testing plays a critical role in evaluating how wall assemblies perform during a fire, ensuring materials and designs meet essential fire safety standards. These rigorous tests help safeguard buildings and the people who use them by verifying compliance with code requirements for fire propagation. • When the National Green Building Standard (NGBS) isn’t crystal clear, we as the certification agency have to interpret the language in the standard to decide what qualifies for points and certification. These official clarifications help verifiers, builders, and design teams better understand specific compliance paths—removing ambiguity and making certification more straightforward. From updates on pools and spas, to green remodeling, to envelope leakage testing, these changes ensure projects can move forward with greater confidence and consistency. • During our recent Board of Directors meeting, members got a front-row seat to the intensity of an ASTM E119 vertical fire test. First, the wall assembly faced sustained, high-temperature flames. Then, it was moved for a high-pressure hose stream test—mimicking real-world firefighting conditions—to see how it held up under extreme stress. It’s one thing to read test results. It’s another to watch the process unfold in real time. This demonstration is a powerful reminder of why rigorous building material testing is essential to advancing safety and performance standards in construction. #BuildingSafety #FireTesting #ASTME119
