We’re excited to invite you to our next Movie Night at the Wiley H. Bates Legacy Center! 🗓️ When: Thursday, October 17th, 2024 📍 Where: 1101 Smithville St, Annapolis, MD 21401 🍿 Movie: Big George Foreman (2023) 🕖 Time: 7:00 PM 🆓 Cost: FREE & open to the public! The Wiley H. Bates Legacy Center honors the legacy of Wiley H. Bates High School. This operated as the only high school for African American students in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County for over 30 years during segregation. As a historical, cultural, and educational hub, the center preserves and shares the school's contributions to education, economic opportunity, and community service. Through its collections and programs, the center fosters understanding of the African American educational heritage in Maryland and serves as a resource for research, renewal, and inspiration. With this in mind, the center has started a new tradition: Movie Nights! Movie nights are FREE, open to the public, and occur every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month with the next one being NEXT WEEK! The movies are chosen with the goal of spotlighting black stories and amplifying black voices - something the Wiley H. Bates Legacy Center strives to do every day. The movie featured for the upcoming event will be "Big George Foreman," a biographical film about George Foreman, an Olympic Gold medalist who finds faith and becomes a preacher. Financial struggles lead him back to the ring, where at age 45, he regains the title of World Heavyweight champion, becoming the oldest heavyweight champion in boxing history! Bring your whole family, bring youth, bring friends, bring acquaintances, bring everyone! Come early, explore the legacy, and stay for the movie. We look forward to seeing you there! . . . #movienight #wileyhbateslegacycenter #biggeorgeforeman #annapolismd #blackhistory #communityevent #freeevent #blackstories #amplifyingblackvoices #culturalheritage #familyfriendly #bateslegacy #historicannapolis #communitygathering #africanamericanhistory #legacycenter #publicevent #annapolisevents #blackexcellence #educationalheritage #celebratingblackhistory #bgcaa

Congratulations to the inaugural Anne Arundel County Hispanic Heritage Award winners! We were proud to serve as a sponsor and share our resources at the inaugural event, and many members of our team were thrilled to attend. While there, AAEDC President & CEO Amy Gowan was proud to present the Restaurant Business Owner of the Year award to Jorge Landaverde, owner of four restaurants in Anne Arundel County (Mi Casita, Rinconcito Mexicano, La Sierra, and Pitaya).
