📉 Colorado’s youth suicide rate is at its lowest since 2007 — showing that prevention and mental health programs are working. The I Matter program — which we fought to keep funded last session — has already connected thousands of kids with free therapy and support. These efforts, along with other key initiatives and the leadership of champions like Sen. Dafna Michaelson-Jenet, are making a significant difference in young people’s lives. Why does mental health access in schools matter? Over the next few weeks, you’ll hear from students, families, educators, and mentors across the country about the difference it makes—now more than ever. When a young person needed support, was it there? Too often the answer has been no—services were out of reach, stigma ran deep, and struggles went unseen. But when the answer was yes, that support was life-changing. This is why we need to #ListenToYouth. First up is Addison, who grew up in a ‘mental health desert’—a place where services were scarce and silence around mental health was the norm. We met her at Active Minds, Inc.' Stories That Move conference, where she shared her experience. What’s your story?

Georgia Insurance Commissioner King is holding insurers accountable with over $20 million in fines for failing to cover mental health care the same way they cover physical health. 📝 Mental health parity laws require insurers to treat mental health and substance use care no differently than physical health care. For too long, insurers have turned a blind eye, putting up barriers to care. This enforcement is a win for accountability and a reminder: #MentalHealthIsHealth. John King

🚌📚 As kids across America head back to school, one thing is clear: young people need more mental health support — and voters agree. 💡 According to an Inseparable Action 2024 nationwide poll, 84% of voters believe mental health services should be expanded for youth, in schools and beyond. It’s time to make sure every young person has access to the help they deserve.

Beautifully said by our incredible intern, Connor Dalgaard! The data is clear: Americans, across party lines, agree that the mental health crisis must be addressed — and that their elected officials can and should do more. With so much bipartisan consensus, there’s real hope for change and for a future where everyone who needs help can access it.
Is our collective understanding of mental health finally transcending political divides? Recent bipartisan polling reveals a striking consensus: overwhelming majorities across party lines recognize a growing mental health crisis. The data suggests that voters, regardless of affiliation, believe elected officials aren't doing enough to address these critical issues. It's a moment of shared concern that could pave the way for collaborative solutions. This collective awareness might signal a turning point. Perhaps we're on the cusp of seeing mental health prioritized, not as a partisan issue, but as a fundamental aspect of societal well-being. Would love your perspective. #MentalHealth #PublicHealth #HealthcarePolicy #Bipartisan #Leadership #MentalHealthAwareness

Promising news for mental health in New Jersey 🙌 Assemblymember Murphy just introduced A5972—a bill that would add a small 40¢ fee to fund 988 crisis services across the state. Why does this matter? Because 988 is more than a number—it’s a lifeline. It connects people in crisis to real help, fast. But with federal funding shrinking, states need to step up. New Jersey is showing what leadership looks like. Let’s keep the momentum going.

Today marks the 60th anniversary of Medicaid — signed into law on this day in 1965 by President Johnson. In the 60 years since, #Medicaid has done so much for so many. Today, it covers 25% of all mental health care and 40% of all substance use treatment in the U.S. But right now, Medicaid is under attack. Congress just passed a bill that will leave 10 million more Americans uninsured and slash the program by over $1 trillion by 2034. We’re not stopping. We’re fighting to protect Medicaid so folks can get the support and care they deserve.
