The insurance industry sits on mountains of data, but most carriers struggle to turn that information into competitive advantage. Louis DiModugno, Global Chief Data Officer at Verisk, recently shared insights on how the industry can move from data chaos to clarity through better governance, AI integration, and strategic partnerships. Drawing from his extensive experience on both sides of the insurance ecosystem, DiModugno reveals how data governance has evolved beyond traditional frameworks to become a strategic differentiator. His perspective offers a roadmap for insurance professionals navigating the complex landscape of modern data management.

𝗧𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿-𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗥𝘂𝗻𝘀 & 𝗦𝗼𝗩𝘀. Schedule of values too big to manage? Spreadsheets with 100+ columns? Nested tables buried in scanned PDFs? Unlike other solutions on the market, Indico handles it all — no template training, no workarounds. Our Tables Extraction agent reads complex tables data exactly as it appears, even with hundreds of rows and columns. It finds the details that matter, extracts the right fields, and groups them intelligently. Underwriters & claims handlers get what they need, how they need it — fast. ⚡ Excel-native ingestion ⚡ Column-by-column and row-by-row matching ⚡ Built-in human-in-the-loop for edge cases This isn’t generic table parsing — it’s insurance-specific table extraction, purpose-built for real submission data.

𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝗠𝘆 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: get answers to any submission question — 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆. Built into Indico’s Agentic Decisioning Platform, this agent answers your prompts, surfaces the values you need, and shows the source — no digging through files required. Just ask: ➡️ “What’s the TIV?” ➡️ “Are there any prior claims?” ➡️ “Are there any high-risk occupancies listed?” Ask My Submission finds the answer in seconds — from PDFs, spreadsheets, scanned documents, and more. It shows you the source and lets you drill in fast, with no guesswork. Whether you’re triaging, reviewing, or quoting, the answers are right there — no digging, no delays. This is what underwriting looks like in the decision era.

Going all-in has transformed Indico from generic IDP vendor in a sea of me-too products to a fast-growing, laser-focused solutions provider. Last week I caught up with Indico's Tom Wilde (CEO) and Jeremy Stinson (SVP Marketing) and they shared some fascinating insights into how placing all their chips on the insurance industry has also transformed the product into an agentic insurance decisioning platform. The team walked me through the new Agent Studio using insurance claim submission examples. IDP is still an important piece but not the main thing anymore. Indico also added new workspace functionality for underwriters and other insurance knowledge workers after the IDP workflow ends. Doubling down on the insurance industry has paid off in spades, with higher growth, better margins, and a clear product direction for the team. * ~70% of annual recurring revenue (ARR) now comes from insurance customers. * Insurance represents ~95% of the sales pipeline. * Average contract value (ACV) has doubled. * On track to grow ARR by 50% this year. Indico’s transformation from a generalized IDP platform to a focused insurance decisioning solution is a stellar example of the strategic clarity and discipline we champion. By going all-in on the insurance vertical, the company didn’t just refine its product. It redefined its identity, aligned its technology, and changed the user experience to deliver data-driven decisioning. 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗜𝗗𝗣 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗲𝗿𝗮 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲. A few years ago, Indico was one of many intelligent document processing vendors. Today, we’re something entirely different: an agentic decisioning platform purpose-built for insurance. Deep Analysis just published a spotlight on our evolution, and why we made a strategic bet to go beyond extraction and transform how underwriting and claims decisions get made. ✅ Built on LLMs and agentic AI ✅ Designed for real-world insurance workflows ✅ Purpose-built to solve triage, clearance, and intake at scale 📈 In 2024, we announced a strategic investment from Guidewire. By 2025, we launched our agent studio and rolled out decisioning agents with real underwriting logic, not just data capture. We’re proud of how far we’ve come. But we’re even more excited about where this industry is headed. 🔗 Read the full piece from Deep Analysis: https://lnkd.in/g6iUX2Xj

𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿. Built into Indico’s Agentic Decisioning Platform, this agent gives ops teams instant direction on what to do with every submission: ➡️Decline it — appetite mismatch ➡️Route to pricing — submission complete ➡️Escalate for review — potential high priority No guesswork. No waiting. Just clear next steps — the moment a file hits the queue. Every submission is evaluated and enriched with appetite scoring, submission history, and exception context — then surfaced with a recommended action that moves it forward. Less sorting, more quoting. Fewer bottlenecks, faster decisions. Next Best Action is how underwriting ops runs in the decision era.

In a recent discussion on our Unstructured Unlocked podcast, Vinod Srinivasan shared his perspective on how large carriers can successfully embrace data and AI. His insights move beyond evaluating standalone tools and focus on creating a cohesive, collaborative, and governable technology landscape. He argues that the key to unlocking AI’s potential lies not in finding the best point solution, but in building a compatible and intelligent ecosystem.
