Greetings, ISACA Portland Members: We are reimagining our Academic Outreach Program, and we need volunteers willing to help! If you have a relationship with a higher education institution in Oregon or SW Washington, we want to hear from you! We are looking for alumni, current students, parents, employees, or those with some other affiliation with a school. Academic outreach is key to our success as an ISACA chapter because it provides membership growth, new insights, and engagement with the education community. By building student and alumni connections, we can stay abreast of innovative ideas and new learning opportunities, resulting in mutual benefits for the academic institution and our chapter. ISACA Portland has several initiatives that need assistance. For example, our chapter recently partnered with Oregon State University to sponsor a scholarship for students to access ISACA early career certifications last year. In addition, ISACA Global has announced a CISA Associate Program for universities. We need your help to grow these programs and spread the word! As a volunteer member of the Academic Outreach Team, you would: 1. Partner with your affiliated academic institution to create connections to raise awareness of ISACA and what our chapter has to offer. 2. Help plan and create engagement strategies for our academic institutions. 3. Make one or two campus visits a year. Please reach out and join our team! For a modest commitment of your time, together we can make a positive impact on students and the future of our chapter. The Board has approved CPE hours to be awarded to those who volunteer. To get involved or ask questions, please contact the ISACA Portland Chapter Academic Outreach Director, David McMorries at: dmcmorries@isaca-oregon.org.

In planning new and exciting social events we have come across some barriers and could use some more info on what you, the members, want from us. We have an idea to have a social event at local legendary Oaks Park for their Oktoberfest happening Sept 19th-21. Please take a minute to complete the survey in your email, so that we can get a better idea as to how many people would like to not only participate in this event but future unique experiences that are not necessarily held on a Tuesday night. -Your ISACA Board of Directors via Ana Schmid

Great training from Safetylight
AI adoption is racing ahead of AI governance. We can't wait for the rulebook—AI risk needs attention now. Under these conditions, governance doesn't begin with standards; it begins with hard questions no one is quite ready to answer. With best practices still taking shape, what we have instead are *emergent* practices: imperfect, situational, and grounded in each organization’s immediate reality. At the ISACA Portland, OR Spring Training last week, I illustrated these points with the story of MindPath, a fictional SaaS company improvising its way through AI risk, shadow tools, and emerging policy. If you’re figuring it out as you go, you’re not behind. You’re doing the work. Thanks to ISACA for bringing together speakers who helped us all make progress. All of the talks offered immediate, useful knowledge, but particularly useful to me were those by James Norrie, Ousâma Lakhdar-Ghazal, Karen Sprenger, Trey Blalock, and Emily Soward. #AIgovernance #Cybersecurity #RiskManagement #ISACA #EmergentPractices #AIStrategy
