Summer has officially arrived, and we're excited to share the latest photo showcasing the progress of the exterior site work at our state office transformation project! The landscape lines and patterning are an extension of the building's internal structure, creating continuous movement from interior to exterior. As the landscape continues to take shape, we look forward to watching the plantings grow and evolve further enriching the outdoor spaces and providing employees with a vibrant environment to enjoy and recharge. JGMA is proud to share that construction will soon begin on the UIC Innovation Center Expansion—a bold new chapter in design and innovation at the University of Illinois Chicago. Conceived as both a physical and symbolic bridge between the university and its corporate partners, the expansion embodies UIC’s commitment to forward-thinking design, interdisciplinary collaboration, and transformative education. The new facility reimagines the Innovation Center as an architectural landmark—where form, material, and spatial organization actively foster creativity and connection. The design consists of a one-story mass timber structure, creating a warm, tactile environment that underscores sustainability and human-centered design. Organized around a central courtyard, the building’s circulation choreographs a clear and intentional visitor experience while drawing natural light deep into all programmatic zones—reinforcing the principles of wellness and transparency. Material selection is deliberately raw and authentic: exposed heavy timber, polished concrete floors, clear glass, and black powder-coated steel / aluminum express the building’s structural honesty while celebrating Chicago’s industrial heritage. Highly flexible lab spaces can be easily reconfigured to accommodate evolving technologies and team-based work, allowing the building to adapt alongside the programs it supports. This expansion positions the UIC Innovation Center not only as a hub of academic and corporate synergy but also as a new icon of architectural clarity and innovation on campus.
