I'm proud to announce we have completed the conservation easement process for 431 acres of land on Pots House Road in Loudoun County. By placing the acreage into conservation easement, in partnership with Old Dominion Land Conservancy, it will be protected from development and preserved as open space for future generations. The area has 7000 feet of streams, wetlands, four ponds, and floodplain areas. Conserving this land contributes to the overall protection of water quality in Goose Creek, a Virginia Scenic River.  Almost 375 acres are designated as either “Prime Farmland” or “Soils of Statewide Importance,” and the protection of these soils from development provides important land area to farm in the future.    Most of the property is part of the historic "Huntland" property and is listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places. In addition, a portion has historical ties to the Battle of Middleburg, a Civil War battle that occurred on June 17-19, 1863, as well as the Battle of Upperville, a Civil War battle that occurred on June 21, 1863. Some of the land is part of the St. Louis Village Conservation Overlay, an area designated by the county as an “African American Historic Community.” Through our partnership with Old Dominion Land Conservancy, we have been able to save thousands and thousands of acres of Loudoun land from development—including this most recent property. They have tremendous expertise in the conservation easement process, which is leaving an indelible mark on our region by protecting our amazing landscapes. We appreciate that ODLC is helping my family be good stewards by preserving Loudoun’s natural habitats, farmland, and past.

Fortunate to have the chance to come together with Pastor Michelle C. Thomas, CEO and other Loudoun County and Virginia state leaders last Friday to celebrate JK Land Holdings’ 10-acre donation to the Loudoun Freedom Center at the site of the African American Burial Ground for the Enslaved at Belmont. As Pastor Michelle said, this is a project of heritage and hope -- and I am proud that JKLH is a part of bringing the present, future and past together and protecting history with this effort. I'm very happy to announce that Dominion Energy's application to move transmission lines has been approved, making it possible for JK Land Holdings to continue with our planned donation to the Loudoun Freedom Center on the African American Burial Ground for the Enslaved at Belmont. Pastor Michelle C. Thomas, CEO and I are so grateful to all who made this happen. Future plans for the Freedom Center include a state-of-the-art museum, which is now possible with this 10-acre donation valued at $20 million. JK Land Holdings is committed to preserving land and history. Over the past decade, we have placed more than 22,000 acres into conservation easement—more than a third of which is in Loudoun County, Virginia, ensuring vulnerable vistas and habitats and our history are preserved and protected for future generations.

  • "The answer is not to put data centers everywhere; it's responsible, reasonable placement of data centers to support the technology and the AI growth in areas that do not affect our natural resources or have a negative impact on our residential communities," said JK Land Holdings's CEO Chuck Kuhn, in the Washington Business Journal.  "There's plenty of places to do that if our counties are smart and strategic and thinking through the placement." The Journal quoted Kuhn in an article about big-name tech firms announcing a $500 billion effort to ramp up support for artificial intelligence technologies and the growth it could bring to Greater Washington. "Many view the initiative, dubbed the Stargate Project, as one that is likely to grow the region's already healthy inventory of data centers, but it could also offer spillover benefits to the growing number of D.C.-area AI startups," writes the Journal.  Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g9iMGdmW
