In medical device development, one of the most important steps happens before any design work begins: clearly defining user needs. It might sound simple, but this foundational step is often rushed or overlooked. When teams don't take the time to understand who the users are, what their real challenges look like, and how the device will be used in the real world, it often leads to problems later on. Misaligned designs, usability issues, and delays in regulatory approval are common outcomes. When user needs are clearly defined, they guide the entire development process.
