Where Children, Families, and Communities Learn Together
About us
The Kennedy Children's Center (KCC) is dedicated to providing high quality education services to young children with developmental delays, in partnership with families and communities. We accomplish this through child-centered, evidence-based instruction that prepares each student to enter the New York City public school system in the least restrictive environment possible. We seek to support families with training, guidance and advocacy, and strengthen our school community through professional development and collaborations with local human service organizations.

More Volunteer Summer Fun! ☀️ Huge shoutout to Marsh McLennan for taking time out of their busy day—all dressed up and rolling up their sleeves in business attire—to pack 200 Busy Bags and whip up a fun Play-Doh recipe for our preschoolers at our Harlem school! Our students attend school year- round, and we’re super thrilled to share that all of our Harlem and Bronx students will be heading home this upcoming summer break with their very own Busy Bag! Big thanks to all our awesome volunteers for keeping the summer vibes lively and bright! 🎒

A huge thank you to Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York & Armis not just for their generosity, but for taking the time to assemble our summer busy bags! Thanks to you, our students have fun, engaging items and activities to keep them busy and learning all summer long! 💙
A heartfelt thank you to our Armis volunteers for partnering with Kennedy Children's Center, an agency of Catholic Charities New York, to assemble 200 Busy Bags for our special education preschool students in The Bronx. These thoughtfully curated take-home kits, filled with Play-Doh, puzzles, bubbles, dot markers, and more, help keep students engaged and supported during school breaks. We are deeply grateful to Armis for helping us continue our mission of supporting children beyond the classroom. Your generosity made a real impact.

Yesterday we rallied for ALL Means ALL — because every program, every route, every space, and every student should include children with disabilities. More than 600 preschoolers are still waiting for a special education seat. Over 7,000 are waiting for services like speech and counseling. And two-thirds of NYC public schools aren’t fully accessible. It’s time for change. Our kids deserve better. Special thanks to Advocates for Children of New York for inviting us to stand up and speak out! #AllMeansALL #DisabilityJustice #InclusionMatters #PreschoolForAll #KennedyChildrensCenter

We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with Nonstop Administration & Insurance Services. Thank you for proudly highlighting and celebrating Autism Acceptance Month with us. Together, we’re making a powerful impact by spreading awareness, acceptance, and inclusion!
Nonstop is proud to support Autism Acceptance Month and our client, Kennedy Children's Center. “Having Nonstop Health as an option for our staff is a true health care benefit. It lifts the financial burden that often comes with medical care—especially for things like prescriptions and copays. At Kennedy Children’s Center, we serve over 250 dedicated staff members, and their well-being is just as important as the incredible work they do in our classrooms. Supporting their health is one more way we can honor their commitment to our students.” —Jeanne Alter, CEO, Kennedy Children's Center To donate to KCC, which supports more than 350 preschoolers, please visit https://lnkd.in/eAiPpgm8 #AutismAcceptanceMonth

MEET MAURICIA: When Mauricia first started at KCC, she could only speak in single words. She struggled to form full sentences and express her wants and needs. Although she was shy when it came to speaking, she amazed us with her dancing, even leading others in routines. Now, Mauricia is a picture of confidence! She shares her day in full sentences and has learned to use descriptive words to express herself. She has also learned to sing beautifully. No longer shy, Mauricia motivates her classmates to participate, encouraging them to use instruments and join in the fun. A huge thank you to her speech therapist, teacher, and classroom staff for their dedication and support in helping Mauricia reach these incredible milestones. #studentsuccess #StudentSpotlight #successstory

The Kennedy Children’s Center is one of the city's largest providers of early childhood special education. Our CEO, Jeanne Alter, created a workshop series for our team to explore mindfulness in everyday life, ending each session with a 10-minute meditation using the 10% Happier App, with free memberships for staff. We're infusing our school with mindful practices. In the joyful chaos of early childhood, it's important to pause and simply 'be aware.' Dan Harris work has greatly influenced our school culture and introduced many to mindfulness.

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Talent and Workforce Development (NYC Talent) to support our Registered Apprenticeship Program. NYC Talent Nija Howard,M.SEd and Ismail Ocasio visited our Harlem site last week to meet some of our apprentices, tour our classrooms, and learn more about how KCC is already making a difference as the first and only Registered Apprenticeship Program in early childhood special education. We are grateful that NYC Talent recognizes that apprenticeships are a powerful tool to build more educators, and we are excited to partner with them to build a diverse, certified, well-trained workforce of education professionals.
