Our 2024 Librarian Survey shows that institutions in Europe don’t just know about OA deals, they have clear favorites. 57% prefer Membership Models 49% lean toward Transformative Agreements 45% are exploring S20/D20 models What does this tell us? Unlike regions where OA awareness is still growing, Europe is entering a maturity phase, librarians are choosing models based on sustainability and control.

💻AI in Scientific Publishing: Opportunities and Risks Three years ago, AI was just starting to emerge as a discussion point in scholarly publishing. Now, it’s a significant topic at nearly every publishing conference and a focus of scientific research, showing that AI presents both opportunities and risks for our industry: 👉A case study in Research Integrity and Peer Review (https://ow.ly/lKkP50WHJnr) reported that authors may need to ask journals about their policy on AI use in peer review prior to submission to ensure that it aligns with their expectations. 👉Conversely, perhaps journals and/or publishers should publicize their policy on authors’ use of AI in preparing manuscripts (https://lnkd.in/evD7CmeU). 👉Another case study in Research Integrity and Peer Review (https://lnkd.in/e_5jHUkt) noted that reputable scholars may now need to be concerned about predatory journals using their name to publish fraudulent AI-generated articles, unbeknownst to them. Strengthening identity verification mechanisms for DOIs and ORCIDs might be a solution to mitigate this threat. 👉Researchers and patient- and public-reviewers need to be aware of these concerns. Furthermore, public consumers of scientific and clinical research articles who may be unaware of these risks may unknowingly make crucial decisions based on fraudulent data that seems to have an official stamp of approval (https://lnkd.in/eN9FHwSy). This research shows that wise AI use demands awareness from authors, reviewers, editors, publishers, and the public. Unchecked, research fraud could contribute to model collapse, where flawed AI-generated content feeds back into training data, eroding accuracy and credibility over time. ❓Which begs the question: Will the future of scientific publishing be defined by AI’s capabilities, or by our collective commitment to integrity and the scientific method? #AI #PeerReview #ResearchIntegrity #ScholarlyPublishing #OpenScience #EthicsInAI

"What Actually Works" in academic publishing webinars 1. Pinpoint Your Audience First ✓ Build detailed author personas before you promote ✓ Use LinkedIn job-title filters + existing publisher networks ✓ Target by field, not just location = You reach people who care 2. Make the Content Worth Their Time ✓ Respected, high-profile speakers in their field ✓ Topics tied to their immediate professional priorities ✓ A polished delivery from speaker to slides = They show up, stay, and engage 3. Promote With Precision ✓ 8-week email campaigns focused on author pain points ✓ Branded promo kits for internal teams ✓ Automated LinkedIn ads aimed at specific roles = More registrations, less wasted spend 4. Localise, Don’t Just Translate ✓ Adapt tone, timing, and message for each region ✓ Use local experts to make it authentic = Feels relevant, not copy-pasted 5. Learn, Adapt, Repeat ✓ Run more than one session to gather data ✓ Double down on what works each time = Continuous improvement, higher ROI Our Results: -Registrations up 255% (74 → 263) in just 3 sessions -Live attendance nearly 5x higher -More author questions than the host could answer Most important question for publishers: Does your webinar make authors think, “I need to attend this”, or “I’ll catch the replay”?
