The Large Public Power Council (LPPC) has joined dozens of diverse industry associations in urging Congress to reauthorize the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA 2015) before it expires on September 30. CISA 2015 enables trusted information-sharing between government and the private sector, strengthening protections for America’s energy grid and other critical infrastructure against evolving cyber threats. We urge Congress to act swiftly to ensure utilities and businesses have the tools they need to defend against cyberattacks. Read more: https://lnkd.in/ebcknBqb #PublicPower

Next week, public power CEOs from across the country will gather in New York City for the 2025 LPPC Financial Conference. They’ll join with financial leaders to explore how public power systems are responding to unprecedented growth in electricity demand, driven by AI, data centers, electrification, and economic development, while tackling permitting delays and interconnection hurdles, financing major infrastructure projects, and balancing investments in clean energy with firm power. Many LPPC member CEOs will be taking the stage to share their insights, including Javier Fernandez, Omaha Public Power District; Daniel Sullivan, Grand River Dam Authority; Jim Pratt, Salt River Project; Phil Wilson, LCRA; Justin E. Driscoll, New York Power Authority; Jimmy Staton, Santee Cooper; Clint Bullock, Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC - The Reliable One); Vickie Cavey, JEA; Carrie Meek Gallagher, Long Island Power Authority; Emeka Anyanwu, Lincoln Electric System; Jackie Flowers, P.E., Tacoma Public Utilities; and Tom Kent, Nebraska Public Power District. Additionally, hear from LPPC member company senior executives, including Jeff Bishop, Snohomish County PUD; Bonnie O., Grant County Public Utility District; Adam Barsky, #NYPA; Gary Stephenson, #LIPA; and Tristan Gearhart, Colorado Springs Utilities. We look forward to the discussions ahead on how public power can continue delivering reliable, affordable service while preparing for the grid of the future. #LPPCNYC2025 #LPPC2025 #FinancialConference #PublicPower #EnergyFuture #EnergyInfrastructure #InvestinEnergy

Today, CPS Energy has announced the closing on its acquisition of PROENERGY’s four natural gas power generation facilities with an aggregate electric capacity of approximately 1,632 megawatts (“MW”) generation portfolio located in Harris, Brazoria, and Galveston counties. The addition of these assets supports San Antonio’s long-term energy needs and clean energy commitments, delivering reliability and cost efficiencies for CPS Energy customers, and represents a major step forward in CPS Energy’s community-led and board-approved power generation plan. The National Clean Energy Week Policymakers Symposium wrapped up last week with LPPC President Tom Falcone highlighting how our members are accelerating investments in energy infrastructure to meet the nation’s growing demand. During his panel, ‘Ready, Set, Grow: Preparing Energy Infrastructure for Tomorrow’, Tom emphasized, “In terms of how we do it, we're all of the above people…All to deliver reliable and affordable power to our communities.” LPPC works alongside policymakers and regulators in Washington to ensure that our not-for-profit members can invest and build the necessary infrastructure for a reliable grid at the lowest possible cost to customers. This includes partnering with the U.S. Department of the Treasury to update outdated private use rules, engaging with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on long-term reliability reforms, and urging Congress to advance a bipartisan permitting reform bill that will benefit every community, industry, and customer relying on America’s grid. Thank you to everyone who came out to discuss these critical issues and share expert insights into all things energy – we’re already looking forward to next year!

Scott Corwin, Tom Falcone, policymakers, and community leaders to tackle rapidly rising demand and the future of energy.
𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗱𝘄𝗲𝘀𝘁—𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 I was honored to be in Omaha, Nebraska, today for the Midwest Forum, co-hosted by EPRI, the Omaha Public Power District, Nebraska Public Power District, and Lincoln Electric System. This gathering brought together senior leaders from energy, government, and industry to address one of the most pressing challenges of our time: how we can collectively work together—leveraging existing and new technologies—to meet growing demand both affordably and reliably. Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen opened the forum with a powerful message emphasizing how the Midwest’s agricultural and energy industry intersect to feed and fuel the nation. The following conversations focused on unlocking the potential in the Midwest to innovate for the future, driving next-generation technologies including biofuel and advanced nuclear to create economic opportunities nationwide. The discussions highlighted the urgent need to ensure customer affordability and drive regional development by enabling access to diverse generation technologies, fostering community engagement, and investing in modernizing existing infrastructure and building new assets. The Midwest Forum is more than a regional event—it’s a model for national and global collaboration. The insights shared here can be replicated across the U.S. and beyond. I want to thank NPPD President and CEO and EPRI Board Chair Tom Kent, OPPD CEO Javier Fernandez, and Lincoln Electric System CEO Emeka Anyanwu for co-hosting the Forum and for your leadership and collaboration. Together, we’re shaping the future of energy.

LPPC member utilities are investing $140 billion over the next decade to meet unprecedented demand for electricity from AI and data centers. As a @NewYorker cartoon by Paul Noth captures, the conversation about who pays for this investment is one of the most important policy questions in front of us. The principle is simple: those requesting new power must pay for the infrastructure required to serve their needs. Long-term power contracts between utilities and data centers ensure that new projects are funded by the electric loads requesting the investment. That keeps costs fair, avoids overbuilding, and allows the grid to expand reliably to meet America’s energy future. Public power utilities are ready to help the U.S. win the AI race and deliver the infrastructure needed for growth — but it must be done fairly and sustainably for our customers. #GridInvestment #EnergyPolicy #PublicPower #AI #Infrastructure
